Staffordshire / Which cemetery in Birmingham?
« on: Friday 24 March 23 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
My ancestor, John Armstrong, died in Feb 1859 in 12 Court? Camden Street in Ladywood-which cemetery is he most likely to have been buried in? I can't find any burial information on Findmypast or Birmingham Burials with his name. Is there anywhere else I could check to find his burial?
Many thanks

Hi,
My ancestor Catherine Armstrong was buried at Witton Cemetery in Jul 1878. She is in 166 48327
She died at Aston Workhouse and is in a common grave, possibly buried with another inmate, Amos Hodgkins who is in 166 48325.
I have found a map of the cemetery and have managed to locate square 166 but I'd love to know exactly where plot 48327 is and if there's a headstone. I doubt it but you never know. I am not from the area but it would be nice to visit. Is there anyone on here who lives nearby that could confirm or anyone that has copies of actual grave plots if they exist? Many thanks

So from the title of the query - we all initially thought we were looking for John Armstrong in 1861.
Might the 'Mary' Armstrong, shown in 1861 as a servant in Aston be Mary Ann I wonder?

She's worth bearing in mind.

Her older brother would have been old enough to have left home also - hence they may not all be together.

Yes sorry about that, not sure how to modify the title...any reason why Catherine isn't showing up?

So is the 1859 death not him?
If not, where did he die?

Yes he died 17th Feb 1859 at 12 Court Carendon? Street in Ladywood so he wouldn't be on the census but his family should be and I can't find them

John Armstrong was an army pensioner per the 1851 census; there are army records for a John Armstrong born circa 1798 in Bale, Mayo, in 51st Foot, discharged to pension in 1837.

Pension records show that he died on 17 February 1861.

Yep that's him! I can't find the rest of the family in 1861...

What were all the details on the marriage certificate?
Witnesses.
Mary Ann’s residence.

John's death certificate states that he was living at Court Carendon ? Street in the Ladywood District of Birmingham when he died in 1859

So where does my George fit into this? I have George Barnett born 1776 to Michael and Tamar so is that wrong? My ancestor John Barnett's (born 1806 in Bray) parents appear to be George and Barnett and Hannah Goble.
