Australia / Re: HORACE BOURBARD AND WIFE ADA
« on: Saturday 20 April 24 03:44 BST (UK)  »

Kenneth's parents divorced in 1937 and his mother Ada remarried

It was Ada who sued for divorce on the grounds of desertion.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/11080457

Ada's second husband William John CHARLES was born-
CHARLES William John
M. Agnes PETRIE
F. Iden
FITZROY NORTH
 18451/1899

From at least 1931 to 1936 William John was living with his parents, Agnes and Iden Goble G CHARLES at 75 Murphy Street Elsternwick.

Kenneth Richard BOURBAUD's brother Adrian Horace enlisted in the forces of WW2.
You can see his digitised record at the National Archives link given previously.  Use the surname BOURBAUD, not CHARLES.

He enlisted 1942 and was born in Elsternwick . A fitter and single.  The file contains a photo of him.
The interesting thing is he states as NOK, his father Horace, living at 352 North Rd, Auburn.

Kenneth Richard also enlisted in 1941 using the surname BOURBAUD. A butcher. Single.
His  NOK is his mother Ada.
There is a letter in the file dated 1986 about claiming some medals which states-

"Since my discharge I have changed my name by Deed Poll"

Now Charles.

This means he was known by and went under the name of BOURBAUD until his 20's being discharged in 1945.

Unusual. One wonders at the late change.

Sue

Adrian Horace never changed his name apparently.
He remains as BOURBAUD on the Victorian Elecoral Roll until 1980 with others of the surname at the addresses.

Mr Charles looks to be William John CHARLES, a butcher.

171 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn, Yarra in 1942

And I think I see Kenneth in the same area in 1949 as the couple.
Kenneth Richard CHARLES, a butcher at 4 Inverleith Street Hawthorn .

Does this sound likely?

In 1937, Horace lived at 8 Hawksburn Rd South Yarra, Victoria.  He was a mechanic.
No others of the surname there.
He had previously been in Elsternwick where Ada Emmaline was with him at 5 Joyce Street, An engineer. 1927 & 1928

It looks as if he built a boat. If so,there is a picture of him

Hi,
Just to clarify.
Was it the given name OR the surname of Ada's second husband that was Charles.
ie Mr Charles ,,?,,?,,,  Or Mr .? .?..  CHARLES?.

Was the son Mr Kenneth CHARLES or Kenneth Charles  ...?...

When and where did Kenneth the son die?

I will join into this conversation while we await a new opening on the Australian board.
Hoping Janice is still following her thread.

Clifford tried to marry underage too. His father warned the clergy. 1859

One Clifford Hughes married Ellen Elizabeth Wickham in 1867

In this version of a rowdy 1873 event, the brothers are named as Frederick and Clifford HUGHES
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/189986712

While in this, the court hearing, the brother of Clifford is named as Alfred  HUGHES.

I think it likely they are, in fact, the sons of Richard, Alfred and Clifford, as the event took place in the Tamworth area (familiar from Richard's first marriage) and it is noteworthy that the poor woman in question was not Margaret, but referred to as the boys' stepmother.

For now, I suggest that you simply go to the Aust board and start a new topic there.

That is simply repeat your request in the right place. ;D

You can use the 'report to moderator' button (bottom right of your current post window) to request ..."please delete as have moved it to right board".
