Other Countries / SINGAPORE: BDM records - searchable??
« on: Wednesday 15 May 19 07:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

Does anyone know if there is a way to "search" BDM records for Singapore?

I've had a look at the https://eservices.ica.gov.sg site, where you can request an extract for a birth or death (if you know the date or period) but can't find anything about marriages.

An acquaintance wants to search for grandparents and GGPs. Circa early 1900s.

Thank you

Europe / ITALY - Sicily - Birth records required.
« on: Wednesday 24 April 19 09:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I have search FamilySearch images and found two birth records (1886 and 1893) from their 'Decade Index' for 1886-1895, however, they only have images for the actual records for 1896-1902.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows where the other images are or if someone in Italy (or better still, Sicily) be able to get their hands on them.

The details are:
Acireale, Catania Providence, Sicily, Italy
Giuseppe SORBELLO No. 161 (born 3 Feb 1886)
Salvatore SORBELLO No. 23 (born 2 Jan 1893)

Their date of birth comes from their naturalisation records in Australia.

Thanks.

Renfrewshire / Obit Request - Eric Hawkswell Briggs SHARP D:1994
« on: Friday 31 August 18 13:32 BST (UK)  »
I was hoping someone in Renfrew might have access to 1994 newspapers to look for an obit for Eric Hawkswell Briggs SHARP.

He was born in Sept 1910 and was 83 when he died, so I'm guessing he died between Jan-Sept 1994. Sorry I can't be more specific. I'm hoping a local library might have an index.

I live in Australia, so ordering a cert for 12 is plan B.

SP Ref is 643/213 Renfrew (would 213 indicate that he died earlier in the year?)

TIA.

Hi all,

I am also a descendant. David Brand was my Great Great Grandfather (I think. There might be another great in there). I'm actually a playwright and I'm looking to write this story up as a play. I'd love to chat to all of you to hear what you've found out about the story; I want it to be as true to fact as possible.

Rachel

Hi Rachel

I think I might see you in August if you're going to be at Murrumbateman for David & Jo's wedding anniversary.

Hi all, my cousin's husband was related to one of these boys I will have to try and find out which one. I know he said the boys who survived were given special watches as a sort of 'compensation' for what they went through.
Claire

Hi Claire

Have you found out who your cousin's husband was related to?

You may be interested to know that the Bay St. George South Historical Society (www.facebook.com/groups/BSGSHistoricalSociety/) are having a Commemoration on the weekend of 19 May 2018 in Newfoundland for the loss and rescue of the boys, as it will be the 150 years anniversary.

The 150 year commemoration is also mentioned in this article:

I'd love to join your FB group too. I sent a request to your page (pretty sure it's the right one).

I also received an email from a Faye who said: could pop them (Nancy or the other Paul relative) a message to say another family member had surfaced. Also you all may find a book by my 2nd cousin interesting

I've read The Brats. Great book. Very true to life I think.
