Thanks to everyone for your help, I really appreciate this.

And thanks Pete for the Leodis hint. I actually had discovered this sometime ago - what a tremendous resource - have discovered photos of the actual houses that my Bennett ancestors actually lived in!

Many thanks again

Julie

Can anyone tell me why this area is known as Little London?

Have done some research online but cannot find any answers. Reason I ask is that my London ancestors (leather dresser and family) suddenly moved from Bermondsey in mid 1850s to settle in Leeds and I wondered if this was part of a larger move of Londoners north - maybe prompted by lack of work in London and new opportunities in Leeds? Or maybe not.......

Would appreciate any insights!

Many thanks

I am trying to find details of a John Farr born about 1791 in Kenley.

Any details of his birth and parents would be much appreciated.

Thanks Paul

Hello Paul

I had a bit more luck here. There is a John Farr who was baptised on April 6 1793, son of William and Eleanor Farr.

They had a number of other children - baptisms as follows

1787 April 8 Thomas
1789 Feb 22/Mar 29 (both dates given) William
1796 July 4 Francis
1799 April 5 Martha
1802 Dec 5 Sarah
1806 Oct 12 James

Also found William and Eleanor/Elinor/Elianor's wedding (very rare - see my comment to Helen below!!)

1786 August 23 William Farr (of Parish of Kenley) and Elianor Smout of the Parish of Acton Burnell

The Farrs seem to be an old Kenley family - their name is found throughout the parish records.

Hope this helps

My greatx3 grandfather, Thomas Stedman, was born in Kenley. I have details of his christening, 26 Jan 1812, but I wondered if there is any record of a marriage between his parents, John Stedman and Ann. (Or a christening that might be for John). I think their first child was Richard born in 1805, so I suppose the marriage would have been shortly before that.

Hello Helen

Afraid that I can't find any record of the marriage of John and Ann - if it's any consolation, the Kenley registers seem very "light" on marriages given the number of baptisms and burials recorded - I can't find any details on any of my Bennett marriages either. However have found the following info on baptisms which may be of some use?

1805 December 1 Richard
1807 Aug 30 Sarah
1809 Nov 12 John
1812 Jan 26 Thomas

all children of John and Ann Stedman.

Maybe John and Ann married/come from another parish? There are no other Stedman baptisms or burials that I could see in the records

Sorry not to have been able to provide info you wnated - hope this helps

Thanks very much Dee

This has been very helpful - but in particular  the link to the Leodis site. What a tremendous resource - I have just discovered a picture of the house my great great grandparents lived in on Buslingthorp Lane!

Thanks again

Please could someone with local knowledge tell me which would be the "local" Anglican church for a family living in Buslingthorpe Lane, Leeds around 1860 onwards.

Thanks very much!
