My Mum is 88 and her memory is going fast as well.  Strange though, she remembers a lot from the past but something we discussed this morning she will have forgotten

If the photo you mentioned has Great Grandfather holding the hand of the youngest child (Jimmy I believe) and all the other children standing in a row from youngest to eldest (my grandfather) then I have that copy.  Actually I sent a copy of it to Louise Brown via email before Christmas.

I will email you with another photograph I have and also a wedding announcement in the Hong Kong Daily Mail that described Auntie Beattie and Uncle Freddie's wedding, it was really interesting.

Take care,
M.

Hi,
Your mother, Marjorie, and my mother Dorothy are cousins.  My mother was always called 'Girlie' so if you ever heard your mother mention a cousin 'Girlie' that would be her.

Mum speaks of Auntie Beattie all the time - she was one of her favourite aunts.  I have been in touch with Louise (Brown) who, if I have it right, is married to Robert, your Aunty Maureen's son.  I found a posting just before Christmas 2010 that she made in 2007 asking about Dora Wilkinson.  When I came across it I was searching Hong Kong history during World War II when the posting jumped out at me.

I have sent Louise some photographs that I had of the Wilkinson family in Hong Kong.  If you would like copies of it Louise could probably send it to you as I think you are in contact with her.  If you are not in contact with her I could forward it to you as well.

There are other cousins in Australia, my mother's sister Patricia, her brother David and her sister Angeline also reside in Australia with their families.  My grandfather and grandmother, William Robert Wilkinson, immigrated to Australia around 1960 I believe.  Uncle David and Aunty Angel went with them.  Aunty Pat, Uncle George and their three children immigrated quite a few years later.

Keep in touch, happy to meet you!

A,

For Josiah & Elizabeth's offspring, I have:
Ellen Wilkinson 1861

Henrietta Wilkinson 1863
Mary Wilkinson 1867
Rhosa Wilkinson 1869
William Josiah Wilkinson 1871
Sara J. Wilkinson 1875 (I think she married a Wilkinson too)
Elizabeth Wilkinson 1878
Louise wilkinson 1881
Charles Wilkinson 1882

So the Charles Lynton descended from was born in 1882.

I have been researching the Hong Kong newspapers on line, dating back to 1838 and there is mention of Ellen Wilkinson.  Is she the Ellen Wilkinson that was a member of Parliament?

Looking forward to the private posting.
M.

Great, look forward to sharing some photos of the Wilkinsons with him.  Is Lynton related to an offspring of William Josiah Wilkinson or Josiah Wilkinson?

Can't believe how large the family is.  I have recently found a relative of Frederick Wilkinson (my mother's uncle) in Australia.  She posted something in 2007 and I only just found it and answered, in October of 2010.  The internet, and sites like this one, makes the world a very small place.

Thanks for the information.

M.

I haven't gone back any further as I have been trying to get information on the maternal side of the family as well and have hit a dead end.

Need to track down William Josiah's wife's family background and Lenora Maria's side of the family - lots of mysteries involved in their histories.

Violet - one of William J.'s daughter - married and moved to Burma.  Trying to track her down as well.  Elusive.

Is there a way of attaching a photograph to the posting?
Thanks,
M.

What I have is:
William Josiah Wilkinson born 17 May 1871 in Newport, Monmouthsire
Death 21 February 1926 in Hong Kong
Father: Josiah Wilkinson
Mother: Elizabeth Williams

Married Dorica(aka Dora) Maria Pereira in Hong Kong  Born 1872 in Hong Kong
Died March 1952 in Hong Kong.

Her brother is August Pereira, his daughter is Matilda Pereira.  He returned to Hong Kong from a trip to the UK and brought back a wife Annie, I believe her maiden name was Horton.  She was not the mother of Matilda.  Matilda's mother passed away previously, not sure in the UK or in Hong Kong.

Children of Dorica and William Josiah Wilkinson:
William Robert Wilkinson - born 1902 in Hong Kong (my grandfather).  He married Lenore de Souza in Hong Kong and had 9 children.  William Robert, Dorothy Mary (my mother), Norman (passed away as an infant), Norma, Hazel, Patricia, Esther, Eleanor, Angelina, David.
None reside in Hong Kong any more.  The countries of residence are: U.K., Australia and Canada.

Frederick James Wilkinson - born 22 January 1902 in Hong Kong
Harry Wilkinson - born 1906 Hong Kong
Violet Wilkinson - born 1909 in Hong Kong
Elizabeth Wilkinson - no date
Henrieta Wilkinson - no date
James Wilkinson - no date
Lily Wilkinson - no date
Joseph Wilkinson - no date
Robert Wilkinson - no date
Charles Wilkinson - no date

Some of the younger children may have been born in the U.K. because William Josiah went back and forth to the U.K. regularly.   Have a few interesting documents and photographs but don't know how to attach them here.

Re Josiah Wilkinson and his son William Josiah Wilkinson.  The latter immigrated to Hong Kong where his 11 children were born.  He passed away in Hong Kong in 1926 at the tender age of 55 in Hong Kong. He joined the Royal Marines in 1888 and purchased his discharge in Hong Kong in 1894.

His eldest son, William Robert Wilkinson, was my grandfather.
