Yes - nice to have the photo along with the report. There was also another small article from William's fiancée.

'Findagrave' has a photograph of William's grave in Aeroplane Cemetery Ypres - here's the link.

Hi -
I've found a newspaper report and as I'm not sure about copyright I'll just add a relevant quote from the article.....

Liverpool Echo September 1917
'Private William Currie, Cameron Highlanders, son of Mr. William Currie of 76 Empire Street West Derby Liverpool, is reported to have been killed on August 20th. Private Currie, who was 24 years of age, joined the KLR in February, was drafted abroad and on arrival was transferred to the Cameron Highlanders. He was in the typewriter trade and an expert mechanic'.

I think this might connect to the William Currie you found. There's also a photo with the report. I've sent you a personal message.

Hope this helps to add to William's story

Hi again - you're welcome

Although the records for the Silver War Badge show the name as James WILLIAM the Medal Index Card  is in the name of James WILLIAMS and show that he was awarded three medals -

The British Medal, The Victory Medal and the 1914-1915 Star and also states that he was discharged.

Hi Garstonite

That's great to have on your doorstep especially if you're able to visit. I didn't know there was a dam there too. I did visit years ago - fascinating house.

These heritage days are a great opportunity to see some lovely houses, churches etc -  many more this week/weekend.

We went to see the chapels at Flaybrick Cemetery which have undergone some restoration after years of being derelict - no roof yet though. There's also a guided walk around the cemetery this Saturday. Some of the churches are ancient and beautiful inside. Some have old pictures etc on display.

I'll probably be kept busy again this weekend!

Kind regards

Hi
You're welcome.

Some of the places are well worth visiting. You may just find something of interest for yourself.

There are also heritage sites, churches etc. open to the public in Liverpool - including free access to Speke Hall this Saturday.

Just search for Heritage Open Days - then select Liverpool or here's a link from the Liverpool Echo.
