Have had a reply from "The Librarian" and she had found a couple of newspaper clippings about a Jack King, who may or may not be this Jack King, one in Mackay and one in Innisfail, and some other possibilities to follow up that may help to discover why he just  seems to disappear.
Cheers

Will close this thread in the meantime and add to it if any information is found.
Thank you all

The death cert. has arrived, but doesn't have much more information.
Retired Painter. Died Princess Alexandra Hospital, South Brisbane.
Born Ptone New Zealand. (should be Petone).
Cremated 5 Jan 1984 Mount Thompson Crematorium.
Informant  N. Culgan, No Relation, 124 Vendale Avenue, Moorooka.
Does give cause of death.

Thank you all for your help, fills in a few gaps just another 30 or so years to work on between Ayr and Brisbane.
Cheers

Ordered the Death Cert and it came back with "No Image available. Will be posted to your nominated delivery address once processed by the registry"
So don't know if I didn't press the right button at some stage or if hasn't been scanned, or whatever is done to make it an Image.

maddys52,
Thank you looks about as much as in 1906.
sparrett,
Think it says, "To Patty Len & Brian   Love to all Jack".  But will try arrange to have another look at the post card and see if there could be anything else under the splodge. I agree he does look a bit older than the dates make him to be. Len is Samuel Leonard King son of the first marriage of Ella Lydia to Samuel Leonard KING who died 1918.
Thanks to Lucy2 for the link, he is named in the Will of his father who died 1968 wonder if they found him?
The website was a bit confusing for my limited skills but will follow your link tomorrow and order the Death certificate.

Thank you for all the help, has filled in a lot of the gaps and given new leads to follow. I will order the Death Certificate, have a 1906 QLD one for another family member and that had quite a lot of information on it, and hope that they haven't changed the content.

Sorry everyone one I should have added more information
He was Jack Harris Edward KING born 1928 in Petone, father Charles KING Mother Ella Lydia. Married 1925. She had a son and daughter from a previous marriage.
I will attach the photo on other side of post card, it may not be an Air Force uniform but the family thought that was who he enlisted with.
