Hello again Phipps,
Being such a newby at this, I haven't yet found my way round it. Will tomorrow see if I can find your email and then we can share family info. Yes, I do know of Frances but she is on your side not mine. It was through her and the family of Samuel Junior, who was also a medic and who went to Aus around the same time as Gertrude did, that I have been able to get another generation back.

looking forward to sharing our researches!

Doroti

Doroti, hello again-I am sending you a personal message.

Phipps, I have just joined Rootsweb having found your interest in Samuel Secker of Wakefield. He was brother to Charles Secker, Veterinary surgeon,  my x2 great grandfather. I have been researching my family history for 8 years and have included those who went to Australia in doing so.
If you would like to get in touch I may be able to help fill any gaps you may have.
Doroti, very interested !
Do you have Frances Secker of Croydon, London in your family history ?She died in her 90s in late 1990s ( approx) . I used to visit her when in London.
I think we should correspond as two live distant relatives by email. You haven't posted enough messages to be able to use personal message.
If you go to my profile you will see my email address.I would like to hear from you absolutely.I have quite a bit of information that might be useful to you too.
I have Dr. Secker's carriage clock.I inherited it from Frances Secker who never married.
Regards,
Phipps

Wow,that is impressive James M. Thomas is as you are aware my Gt.Gt. Grandfather's brother. My Gt.Gt. uncle, right ?
My maternal uncle,Charlie Fricker of Romsey/Lancefield, Victoria died late last year, aged 91. Did you follow that thread ? He had 5 daughters and no son/heirs so when he died the direct line from George Fricker,Thomas' brother was finally broken.
George Fricker, brother of Thomas Fricker had a son, John George Fricker,my Gt.Grandfather and he was a teacher in many places in Victoria. He outlived my grandfather Herbert George Fricker and died aged about 93 from memory.
Some Fricker girls from John George Fricker are Queenie, Ethel Beatrice.
There is one Fricker daughter  of Herbert George Fricker still alive. She is 98 and lives in Tasmania. She is my aunt.
My mother,Norma Fricker died aged 86.
It seems most Frickers have long lives, the exception being Herbert George Fricker who died in about 1951 aged about 67.
I was born in Melbourne,Caulfield but I am in P.R.China now.
How does one classify our relationship ?
I am excited to find another branch of the family. Great stuff !
I would like to keep in touch !
Respectfully,
Philip

Hi James M, that is very interesting. I have not heard of the " Morrish" connection before.
Which of the two brothers does the Morrish connection relate to ?
I don't have my papers with me right now but I am descended from George Fricker. He was the carpenter I think. His brother was I think Thomas and he was the blacksmith I think.
Could you tell me more ?
Thank you for your time,
Respectfully.
Philip

Hi Phipps,

see my reply to your other post on this subject - I believe that the 'Roberts and Son' you mention was my GGrandfather's firm, Ivor L Roberts, who was a dealer in Renault motorcars in Swansea's Oxford Street in the the 1910s, 20s and 30s. he also sold many other makes of motorbicycles and cars, but Renault was his main car manufacturer.

Hi lizholt,
Thank you, yes,I have read your other reply.Do you know if any of your Gt.Grandfather's business records were preserved/are held by  any organisation ?
Kind regards,
phipps

Hi Phipps,

I couldn't help noticing your query about the Bath Hotel.

My parents actually live in part of this hotel, for many years now it's been split into private houses. They are three storey, part of a Georgian terrace on the seafront at Norton, in Oystermouth, Swansea. My parents' house was apparently the servants' quarters of the Bath Hotel, and is next to the main part of the hotel, which was on the corner of Mumbles Road and Norton Road. The rooms are large, with high ceilings. The views across Swansea Bay are stunning!

Hope this helps

Lizholt
Hi lizholt, This information is very useful to me,thank you. This is where my Gt Grandmother and her children, including my 6 year old Grandfather retreated to after their home," Norton Lodge" was gutted by fire in 1887.
Is there a photo of Bath Hotel as it exists today,or as it existed in the 1870s that you know of ?
I appreciate your time and kindness very much !
Kind regards,
phipps

Hi Phipps

You ask about
'2. Messrs Roberts & Son.,- valued my GGFs motor car in 1921 for Estate purposes, a 4 seater Renault.
I believe that this may have been my G Grandfather's company, Ivor L Roberts. He had a large car and motorcycle salesroom in Oxford Street, Swansea, and was a dealer for Renault cars in the '20s and '30s.
Sadly his son, also Ivor, was killed in Singapore during the second world war. I'm not sure when the business closed, but it was certainly still going in the '50s when my parents met, although it had moved premises, to Mansel Street, by then.

Regards

Hi lizholt, Thank you so much for that information. That gives me a new focus and I appreciate your time and kindness.
