Thank you again, I have had a good look at the Jewish site but it states that 70% of the information on that site has been contributed by users and I would say lodged by some of the family. I will see if I can get both Mary Ann's birth and marriage certificate which may solve some of the mysteries which is what I was hoping when I asked for a look-up, to see that there are certs available where I think they are.

Hi Shane, thank you for quick response. Some of the family believe that Mary Ann's surname was spelled  LUKIS and that the family were Jewish but really have no idea as her daughter who married my ggrandfather married in Melbourne in a Free Church and Mary Ann was apparently buried a Catholic.
It is also rumoured that Samuel and Mary Ann were cousins in which case the spelling would be LUCAS but I do not know Mary Ann's fathers name although Samuel's fathers name was John.
I have always found it strange that 1. Samuel was from Cornwall and in Ireland  2. Mary Ann lived in Cork, Co Cork supposively and married at 16 years in Westport, Co Mayo quite a way from home.
Just trying to get to the bottom of it.
