Technical Help / Re: Mcafee anti virus
« on: Monday 15 April 24 12:32 BST (UK)  »
I don’t know if this is relevant but we have had several emails in the past month from McAfee saying our subscription is due, closer inspection of the sent email address shows that these are from anywhere but McAfee, also we haven’t used McAfee since we changed from a PC to a mac in 2015!
Just be a bit careful about clicking on any of the links

Technical Help / Re: Help! Very technical question – for me anyway!

if you go into settings and it automatically connects to your wifi, you can click on the blue i button next to you wifi details, there is an option to “forget this network” click on it and it won’t automatically connect.

The Common Room / Re: Surname used as a middle name
« on: Friday 20 October 23 19:44 BST (UK)  »
Also, before middle names were fashionable, a surname as a middle name in a baptism of a base child might indicate who the father was.

This happened with one of my ancestors,I found it was the neighbours surname from one of the censuses but they had three sons all living at home

Lincolnshire / Re: What is the Bail of Lincoln?

Not sure if it has always been so, but when locals mention The Bail, it refers to the uphill area around Bailgate.

The Common Room / Rainbows badges and family history
« on: Sunday 08 January 23 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
My granddaughter started Rainbows (for those who haven’t heard of it, it is for girls aged 5-7 before they move on to Brownies) last September, one of the badges they can work for, is by drawing their family tree. As we were visiting over the Christmas period, I was enlisted to help. We did a simplified version using first names only but it gave my granddaughter a real insight into where everyone fitted in the family, especially since she calls her great grandparents GG together with their first name. Not quite sure how she thought they were related to her before doing the chart. The surprise on her face when she realised that GG ** was her grandad’s mum and her daddy’s grandma.

Lincolnshire / Re: Lincs to the past
« on: Friday 04 November 22 17:35 GMT (UK)  »
I find the new website Lincolnshire archives has isn’t very helpful, unless you are able to visit the archives in person. I miss the lincstothepast website and don’t have a sub to find my past. Fortunately got a lot of information from lincstothepast before it was discontinued.  Was hoping that the Ruston archiving was going to be a feature on the new website, but, unless I’m missing something, nothing as yet.
