Shetlandlover.

To make it easier to communicate, you can contact me by e-mail. My e-mail address is:

parkerjg at hotmail.co.uk

I won't post the @ as I don't like posting my full e-mail on sites like this.

Via e-mail, I will invite you as a "guest" to view my family tree on Ancestry.com. You can then register and see the ancestors and descendants of James Parker. James Parker's father was John Parker, of whom I have few details.

My own name is James Parker.

Regards,

Jim

Anyone still researching this Wallace thread? I think I have gone as far as I can with the Wallace family after their move to Carlisle.

Have you found the family in 1861  :-\

I can't find the family in 1861. In 1991, Ann is head of household, Alice presumably passed away. But here they are called the Campbell family but with no husband.

Household   Role   Sex   Age   Birthplace
Ann Campbell    Head   F   46   Ireland
John Campbell Son   M   21   Cumberland, England
Mary Ann Campbell Daughter   F   11   Cumberland, England
John Newman John Newman  Nephew   M   8   Cumberland, England

There remains a possibility that I am confusing two separate families.

Alice Fairley -widow-47 bn Ireland
Ann -dtr - unmarried bn Ireland
James -son -18 bn Carlisle
Mary J - dtr -13 bn Carlisle

Many thanks. And the 1881 data that links the Fairley and Campbell families is:

Alice Fairley    Head   F   57   Ireland
John Campbell    Grand Son   M   11   Carlisle, Cumberland, England

No birth for a John Fairley either I presume  :-\

The only John Fairley I find in GRO was born in S Shields; mother's maiden name GAGO.

It would not be uncommon for a young woman to stay with a friend elsewhere for the confinement, especially if she was unmarried. Alice Fairley and her daughter Ann were both born in Ireland, so Ireland and Scotland are both possibilities for the birth registration.  In Scotland's People there were around 100 John Campbell entries for the approx. date; and 5 John Fairley entries.

Ann called herself Campbell on the Baptism Cert so I could imagine some pressure from the priest to use the father's name, with a strong hint to get themselves hitched!

I think my search for Gt Grandfather's Birth Cert is going to be fruitless.  :'(

My PARKER family goes back some years in Carlisle, my father (John), grandfather (Samuel) and great-grandfather (James) all being Carlisle born. I lived for a short period in Colville Street in Dentonholme and have a few memories of that time. I was aged about 3 or 4. We also made many visits to Carlisle on the way south on our camping trips. I wonder if anyone is researching PARKER ancestors in Carlisle. I'd happily share the information I have.

My question here is about FAIRLEY and CAMPBELL links. My grandfather Samuel Parker married Jane Ann Campbell; her father was known as John Campbell. John Campbell married Isabella Talbot from Dalston. They were married in St Bede's, both families being Catholic. In their marriage certificate the father's name has a strike-through line in place of a name. On a visit to the Carlisle Register Office a couple of years back we searched for John Campbell's Baptism Certificate and found a John Campbell baptized on17th October 1869; mother is given as Ann Campbell. No marriage details (conjugatum) or father's name is given. In the 1881 Census I find a John Campbell (age 11), grandson of Alice Fairley. Tracking to the 1871 Census, this family has a John Fairley (age 1) given as son; other family include Head - Alice Fairley (age 47 and unlikely to have a son at this age). There is also an Ann Fairley (age 25) whom I suspect was John Campbell's mother.

With the above information it has not been possible to retrieve a Birth Certificate for John Campbell. Anyone got any ideas on how to proceed?

magsx1, This is what you posted before:-

Father-----Francis Jardine Wallace b 1909

Grandfather----- Nathaniel Wallace b 1875

Great Grandfather Robert Wallace b 1847

But I have Nathaniel Wallace b 1874 with father John Wallace, not Robert. So I wonder if these are different lines.

Here is the birth certificate of Nathaniel Wallace. Does this fit with your info?

I'd like to find marriage certificate of John Wallace m Jane (or Janet) Moffat.

Regards,
James Parker

I have just confirmed via birth certificate of Nathanial Wallace, that Jane Wallace was formerly Jane (or Janet) Moffat.

I now have a high degree of certainty that John Wallace & Jane Moffat moved to Carlisle, where they are found in the 1881 census as follows:-

Household    Gender    Age    Birthplace
head    John Wallace    M    54    Scotland
wife    Jane Wallace    F    50    Scotland
son    Samuel Wallace    M    24    Scotland
son    John Wallace    M    20    Dalston, Cumberland, England
daughter    Margaret Ann Wallace    F    16    Dalston, Cumberland, England
daughter    Mary Wallace    F    14    Carlisle, Cumberland, England
son    James Wallace    M    9    Carlisle, Cumberland, England
son    Nathan Wallace    M    6    Carlisle, Cumberland, England
