I was in touch with a Canadian descendant of his (Susan Forgeron), in St. Catharines, Ontario, during 2010 and 2011. She contacted St Beghs Church and got some info on him - which she forwarded to me. I could maybe put the info on here as an attachment.

Cumberland / Re: Henry Miers born 1811 Whitehaven

I've noticed there was a Henry Main baptized at Whitehaven Holy Trinity 12 Oct 1810, birthdate given on IGI as 28 Jun 1810. Parents were Henry and Jane. Can't find any further trace of a Henry Main.

Possible parents to this Henry were the John Henry Mires and Jane "Puttinson" who married at the same church 12 Sep 1809, or about 9 months before the birth of Henry "Main".

Cheers,

Stephen

I noticed searching on Google that the papers added: "..., confectioner".

The son Jackson turns out to have been registered as MEIER in JUN 1838, which looks like the German name. IGI doesn't seem to have any baptisms. Jackson "Miers" was mentioned here, along with brother Henry, accountant at the Whitehaven News office:

The Carlisle Journal and Carlisle Patriot both announced the marriage of "Mr. Henry Myers, joiner, to Miss Jane Jackson".

I've found this example of HD's work on ebay. Link gives his address as 32 Church Street:

Hi Bob,

I found him marrying in Everton in 1869 (given his dad's address). This site has examples for sale, by H, Henry and Henry D:

This is the only site that seems to mention "H" of Cockermouth. I can't find any Atkinsons online (whether H or HD). There was a Henry based in Camden Town in 1871, but the census info suggests he was in London at the time the Cockermouth photos were being taken.

Regards,

Stephen

Earlier this year, I was sent copies of four photos taken by H. Atkinson of Cockermouth. He is not found in any directory of Cumberland, or any census, and I believe he was most likely Henry Dixon Atkinson, but I can't track his movements between 1861 and his marriage in 1869. I know there is one photo in existence which was taken by H. Atkinson of Waterloo, which I assume was Liverpool.
