Thank you so much Whillans for taking the time to reply. While it is a long while since I posted this photo your information is crucial to identifying these ancestors and I am pretty sure who they are now. Thank you once again Linda

The Common Room / Re: FAMILY TREE MAKER to be discontinued!
« on: Friday 11 December 15 00:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am not sure if i am putting this on the most appropriate section of Roots but hopefully someone will point me in the right direction if I have got it wrong.
I have used the Family Tree Maker (FTM) software for many years to record my family research information and also I have also subscribed to Ancestry which I use to research data. Since Ancestry bought out FTM I have been able to sync my desktop tree to Ancestry as i am sure many people do and have enjoyed the joint provision.
This week I got an email from Ancestry to say they are retiring FTM from Dec 2015 but will continue supporting it until Jan 2017. This has massive implications for people who use FTM and Ancestry if you wish to keep your family tree  research on your computer. As from Jan 2017 FTM  software wont be supported and if you wish to maintain your tree you will have to use the internet version on Ancestry. As I understand it you will need to go on  the internet to access your tree and I guess  you will have to continue your Ancestry subscription as once you cancel it you will lose access to your tree and all the research you have done. Has anyone else considered this situation and have any thoughts on what alternatives they will consider. I really don't want to lose control of my family tree and all the research I have done.

The Common Room / Re: 1939 Missing family and address

 Hi groom
The email you have recently received is word for word the same as I received on 5.11 and am still waiting to hear the results of their investigation.  However that does not mean that they are not now giving it their attention and you will not hear shortly - and hopefully you will.  ;) :D ;)

Next week I am going to one of the FindMyPast presentations that they are doing about the 1939 register and I may get the opportunity of asking them what is the process when they are notified of likely omissions and their estimated response time ??? ???

Thank you for the replies and while I don't want anyone else stuck it is reassuring to know it is probably an error in the 1939 register and not me
Kind regards and hope you get the answers soon.

The Common Room / 1939 Missing family and address
« on: Sunday 22 November 15 23:35 GMT (UK)  »
My father Norman Walsh born 1913 lived on Lower Bridgeman Street Bolton in 1939 with his 1st wife  Alice born 1914 and their son, my step brother, Graham born 1936 died 1976. I know Graham's record will be closed but my father and Alice should be there but can't be found anywhere. The house they lived at on Lower Bridgeman Street was either 22 or 34 and I know they were at one or the other as I have a letter my father wrote in 1936 with the address on and I was born at the other a few years later. Anyway some of the houses on that Street were built in the 1800s. When searching by address there are only 2 houses listed as Lower Bridgeman Street no 78 and 80 yet I know the other houses were there before 1939. I know there is also a Bridgeman Street and Bridgeman Place but these are separate and not the same streets. I thought the most likely solution was that part of the register had been missed hence no family or address and so sent the 1939 register team an email which they acknowledged 3 weeks ago and said they were going to look into it. I have not heard anything since and the 1939 register hasn't changed. Anyone got any suggestions other than waiting. Thanks

Thank you so much to you both  they are excellent, and once again I will leave it to my sister in law to choose. It always amazes me how clear and sharp they look when you have waved your magic wands - probably better than the originals.
I am so sorry about the delay in getting back to you- I lost my handbag with my cards, reading glasses and all the things women have in their bags which has caused me all sorts of frantic problems but think I am sorted now.  Once again Thank you for your time and wonderful work and barring any other problems we should have the album finished and sent off for developing later this week. Kind regards Linda

Hi all
I have recently asked for help a couple of times with repair and clean up of photos that are being put in a memory album which will be given by my sister in law to her parents in memory of their son (and her brother) who died a couple of months ago. I have really appreciated the help and the excellent quality of the work done and apologise for asking for help again. We have selected another photo to put in the album and unfortunately it has several creases and needs a repair and clean up. But for this photo the album is finished and I hope that my request is within your rules but please let me know if there is a problem.
II'm sorry but have had to reduce the dpi to 250 to reduce the kb to less than 500.
Thank you yet again for your support
Kind regards
Linda

Thank you Stevew101 and Trishanne for the work you have done on the photo. I can clearly see the plaster mentioned by Treetotal which I couldn't see on the original. Thanks Treetotal and I shall be interested to see if Anne remembers having a sore knee when I se her later this week.
Trishanne you are probably right about the clothes being Ladybird which was a well known make in this part of the country (Bolton Lancashire) and sold by Woolworths if my memory is correct. It wouldn't surprise me at all if you have got the colours right. Anyway thank you very much to you all. It really is good of you giving your time and sharing your skills in this way. Kind regards
Linda

Thank you Treetotal. It amazes me how you manage to make the photo look so good and like it did originally. Much appreciated
