Regarding the picture.  It looks like Aireville Grange which became a secondary school in the 1950's.  For comparison there are some pictures on The Rowley Collection (pictures of old Skipton) If you search for it and then search the site for 'Aireville'.  It should come up.  Would it be possible for some on to re-post the picture to the Photo's board for a 'clean up'?

Yes they are Anne & Benjamin.  When I have looked again there is a burial for a child called John.  Date of burial30.5.1838 aged 2 years.  It does not mention parents names but there were not many Hallams in Cononley - may be only two families.

Hi

The details that you have are listed in the PR's.  It appears that all three children were baptised on the same day.  There is no middle name for William but father is noted as Benjamin.  The family acutaly lived in Cononley which is nearby.  Have you got the details of the other children?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Skipton Marriages

Hi

Can't help much further but can confirm that Skipton was in West Yorkshire at that time.

Regarding the marriage, the parish records that I have do not show this entry.  One snippet that may be helpful is that there were prisoners of war detained in Skipton during the second world war, but were allowed to work outside the prison camp.  the Polack name does not appear on records near that date and I wondered if he was a POW.  It may just be one of those that only a copy of the marriage certificate will solve.

Good hunting

You're welcome, if only all queries were as easy as this!!.  If you need any more help with Skipton, post again.

You're in luck, it was easy to find and in good condition

The headstone reads as follows:-
Sacred to the memory of Edmund Haighton son of William Haighton of Skipton Tin Plate worker who departed this life March 8th An. Dom. 1800 aged 26.
Also William Haighton father of the above who departed this life October 18th An. Dom. 1804 Aged 55
Also Mary relict of the above William Haighton who departed this live Aug 12th An. Dom. 1809 aged 59.

There should be pictures of the church if you g*****e it and the headstone is the third one in on the far left wall but I don't think that this would be the original placement.

If you can wait a couple of days I will have a look around the church yard.  Unfortunately lots of the headstones have been moved around because of alterations etc.  I see that you have a reference if where they could be if you could give me an indication of where abouts the plot numer is situated (as you are looking at the front of the church) it might be helpful.

I have had another look for a baptism but the only one near with a william with a father called John happened in 1834 in Kildwick. As far as the differing locations go - Cowling was part of the Kildwick parish and that could explain the use of those two.  The Thornton location could just be a mistake by the emunerator as well as the Cornshaw reference.   I doubt that mystery would be solved.

As far as the death is concerned, have you seen the entries for two William Smiths in Halifax one in 1896 aged 66 and one in 1899 aged 69 on freeBMD?

I am sorry that I cannot be of further help

Hi,

I have had a look at the PR's for Kildwick and cannot find a William baptised in 1830 or thereabouts with a father John.  There are various combinations on the 1841 census but nothing concrete.  Have you any further information such as siblings, or ocupations?  Also Kildwick would have been in West Yorkshire as was Skipton at that time.
