Europe / Poland, Zack or Schneider or similar
« on: Friday 05 August 11 20:50 BST (UK)  »
My grandparents emigrated separately and unknown to each other, to UK from Poland/Russia in around 1905, He was Antony Zack???? and she was Mary Schneider. I can see them living in Leeds in the 1910-20 period through my mother's birth cert in 1910 although I have not been able to trace them on the 1911 Census (or even the address which I know they were living at. (Language difficulties??). She is shown as Maiden name Taylor on all her 5 children's birth certs, this being the translation of Schneider into English I know my grand mother came from Suwalki, Poland/Russia as I have the registration documents for her and her brother John who also came to England in 1908. I am told that Anthony may have come from Lodz/Poland. I can find no marriage certificate for them although my aged aunt of 91 (the youngest daughter) says she saw it when she was a child when she queried the fact that her sisters had been born before they were married. The explanation given at that time was that "He would not marry me until he joined the Pioneer Corps ??? during the 1st World war so that he qualified for Army Marriage Allowance. (Quite a Yorkshire trait?)

I would dearly like to trace the links back to Poland but after some months of trying I am having no luck. Can anyone suggest any way forward bearing in mind that I don't speak Polish and the possibility that records for the area were probably lost during the 2nd World War.
