Hello David,
Are you still searching for Hawkins in Berkshire.  My son has a brass seal with the heraldic arms engraved in reverse attributed to such family by the College of Arms.

Very many thanks both for your knowledge and expertise.  Have managed to identify the daughter and probably only child of GSW in consequence of your research who likely is no longer with us or if she is would likely not be interested in being reunited with relatives in Australia, which was the underlying object of the exercise, although it appears to complete a branch of the family tree - always the most difficult exercise to trace forwards in time. Again, thank you for the generous use of your time!

Somerset Lookup Requests / George Stanley Whiting - Bristol & Weston super Mare

Attempting to trace descendants of a Merseyside family, one of whom George Stanley Whiting, born 1890/91 in West Derby, was thought to be living in the Bristol locality temp. WW II, possibly with Groom or Sherlock relatives, and who died at Weston c. 1960.  Nothing is known of George other than those suppositions.  Any snippet about him would be most welcome from Directories or any other source that may be known about to local researchers or locally available.

A FIBIS [families in british india] website search reveals that William [Willie] Jones Whiting was a Sgt. 2nd Highland Light Infantry stationed in Faisalabad - presumably in Dublin in 1889. A son Albert John was bapt. in India 1890.  Willie was buried in India in1891 and a son John William Stewart W. was baptised there after his fathers death in 1892 - so a re-marriage for Annie in that year would not be unlikely with a birth in 1893 of Wm Wallace Cowie.

Splendid discovery! Twins properly allocated.  Do the parish registers reveal parents abode at this date - it appears the births were not registered so no birth certificates are obtainable.

Other family members of this army family were baptised twice - once in the location of stationed parents and then at family baptisms at the home location.
Details of family sought to seek to separate the two identically named WHW's whose trails in the UK  often appear to confusingly overlap.

WHW b. c 1804 Ealing [later Ceylon & France] underwent a second family baptism in Portsea in October 1805 so is not identical with WHW born 5 June 1809 in Ealing and with whom he has been confused by others researching the later born individual.  One of these two individuals was in Egham in 1844 when his wife gave birth to twin daughters, Elizabeth and Charlotte, both of whom it appears died young, and in the absence of any located baptismal records it is unclear whose daughters the twins were.  Confusingly both WHW's may have had wives named Elizabeth.

Have been attempting to locate baptism/parental details of William Henry Whiting whose birth was said to be in Ealing c.1804 when his father was serving in the army as a recruiting officer there, for sometime without success.  The family name was sometimes recorded as Whitting. Presumably a church baptism occurred shortly after birth in that locality or could it have been by army chaplain??
