Thanks for info very interesting, John Foster who I first made the Query about is my 3 x Grand Uncle, I know he became a photographer between 1851 and 1861, but the info you sent suggest a Joseph Foster was also a photographer in Coldstream, this is very interesting as John`s brother my 3 x Great Grandfather was Joseph Foster Did they start the business together???.
Sometimes when one delves into one`s ancestors the answers create more questions than they answer, but perhaps that's why it such an interesting hobby.
Are the photo`s you have Carte de Visites, the type with the address of the Photographer on the back if so would it be too cheeky to ask you for a copy of both front & back, it would be good to have a photo taken by him even if I don`t know who is is.
