Hi
It looks like Henry was John's elder brother
Henry Donn bapt 28.6.1727 s of William and Ann at St Mary De Crypt,Gloucester.
Four older siblings at Gloucester
Jane Dunn 1716
William  Dunn 22.2.1719
Thomas Dunn 25.4.1722
Mary Donn  born 13.2.1725 bapt 29.5.1726

So a lot of children there.
Possible marriage at Quedgeley William Dunne of Gloucester to Ann Reade of Elmore  19.6.1715

William Doune bapt 5.3.1692 s of William and Jane.
Siblings Mary 3.9.1694,Jane 2.8.1700

So Capetown has cracked it the Dunns/Dones came from Gloucester.

Hi
I agree I don't think he is the one who marries Elizabeth.
I think that is the Joseph Williams bapt 16.10.1808 s of Francis and Elizabeth  Williams  looks like the one in Almondbury.
Father Francis is born in Olveston in 1774 and buried at Almondbury 13.7.1828 age 54 of Almondbury Hill. His sons Francis born 1805 and George born 1804 seem to be buried there too.

Then we have Joseph born 1800 s of John and Ann Williams bapt 16 Feb 1800 (family there until daughter Hannah born 1822).
And your Joseph bapt 1805 s of James and Mary . Son George 1802 in Olveston ,a butcher. Elder son James born 1801 farmer in Olveston .The family seem to have stayed in Olveston.

But if we look at the censuses that is not right.
1861 Olveston
Joseph Williams 61 farmer
Charlotte Webb 62 Almondsbury sister in law

She started life as Charlotte Brown 14.10.1798 d of George and Elizabeth at Almondsbury.
She married Henry Webb at Bristol st Pauls 21.10.1841.
That Joseph remarries an Eliza 1861-1871.
That also seems to be at St pauls 12.10.1869
Joseph Williams s of John Williams a widower and Eliza Luce spinster d of John Luce
And she is born in Olveston as per the 1871 census and about the right age.
I can't see a copy of the marriage only a partial transcript.

So it looks like Joseph Williams who marries Rachel Brown in 1832 is the son of John and Ann.
Joseph who marries Elizabeth Skinner is the son of Francis and Elizabeth ,given that Francis is deceased by then.
And I don't know what happened to Joseph Williams born 1805 s of James and Mary.

Does that help?

Hi
Yes sorry about that .I went with the transcription on Find a grave
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/150138326/mary-margaret-hughes

However they are all on the same gravestone and her age can't be right because son Clifford is given as born 1839 .Trouble is ,the first digit of her age at death is so worn it's difficult to tell.
She *6 years old in 1866.
So given son Clifford born 1839 her year of birth has to be 1820,1810 ,1800.

Looking at another data set Sydney, Australia, Cemetery Headstone Transcriptions, 1837-2003 on Ancestry it says 56.
Clifford Thomas  Henry was baptised 26 Dec 1841 birth date May 25th Liverpool St Luke Sydney so that doesn't quite match up either. (Clifford's entrance to Darlinghurst jail in July 1860 also says age 20 so born 1840).

Hi
William and Ann Done's children at Barnwood
Ann 5.2.1733
Susannah 21.12.1735
Priscilla 4.2.1738
Samuel 7.6.1741
Samuel 3.4.1743
William 1.12.1745
Charles 4.1.1747
John 15.4.1750
Thomas 11.12.1752

possible burial for William Dunn 24.11.1769,or 5 Sep 1794 and 12.2.1797

And that's as far as I can see.
There don't seem to be any Attawoods at all.
It's bloody awkward

Hello
I'm not in the local area but it looks like there was a gravestone and it's on Find a Grave .com.

www.findagrave.com/memorial/226010435/agnes-evans

It has a possible burial date 1906 but there wasn't a burial in 1906 ,only 1916 so it looks like her and the stone has weathered a bit.
The site does allow you to request a photo.I've not done it so I don't know if they charge or how much.

But it is there. There are a William and Elizabeth Evans not too faraway according to the Grave numbers.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Maria Clough, b1819 Manchester
« on: Friday 19 April 24 12:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello
This does look tricky
I've checked the maiden name for the children and it looks like Richard Lomas has two wives called Maria.
His second marriage is in Dec qtr 1849 to a Maria Hindle at Sculcoates.
So the 1851 census does not count.
Children
Elizabeth 1840 Manchester
Hannah Sep 1842 Manchester mdn Clough
John Hindle Mar qtr 1845 Sculcoates  mdn Hindle
Elizabeth Ann Mar 1849 same
Richard Dec 1852 same
Maria June 1855 same
Isaac Sep 1857
Martha June  1863 Ashton under Lyme

Like you I'm struggling to find an Elisha Clough carter.
There is an Elisha Clough over at Harewood farmer born 1795 who married Jane Smith 10.8.1819 at Leeds. No sign of a daughter Maria though.

Hi
Looking at his parents gravestone
Mary Margaret Hughes nee Gleeson born 1830 Nenagh, County Tipperary, Ireland
died 11.10.1866.
Richard Hughes born 1800 England died 6.11.1874
Elder brother Clifford born 1841.

Given there is a Richard Hughes convict transported 1830 on the Cumberland from Kent I'd go for this.

Richard seems to have married Charlotte Botten 2.7.1826 Frinsted.
Children - Anne 3.6.1827 Frinsted  and Clifford 14.6.1829 at Lenham.

The children are with Thomas Hughs and Anne nee Clifford married 4.8.1805 Maidstone on the 1841 census at Frinsted.
I'm guessing Richard was their son from before their marriage in 1805.

The parish records for Nenagh Couthy Tipperrary start 1831  but it's a place to start.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Jenifer Jennings 1930 ish James Dawson
« on: Thursday 18 April 24 11:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi again
If we go for James William Dawson' s  DOB on his death registration 23.3.1924 there is a James William born 23.3.1923 on the 1939 index in Otley
Father Fred born 1892
sister Madge 1926 .

James William Dawson birth reg Wharfdale   June 1923 mother's mdn  Rushton
Madge June 1926 and Jack Dec 1929.
Mom Annie Ruston married Keigthley Sep 1923.

But that does seem a long way from a Boys School in Sussex.

Hi
Looked at the Jennings and it looks like Clare and Jennifer's parents were in charge of Avisford Prep School in Sussex
The ex Major Charles Jennings (1881-1979) and his wife Margery Maria Tate (1891-1975) who married in Cairo 29.9.1919 at St Marks Roman catholic chapel.
They had a son Michael 1920-2002 ,Elizabeth Ellen 1924-2003 and there also seem to be Clare ,Jenifer and Patricia Mariella.
I'm struggling to find all the children as some would have been abroad.
Clare ,Michael and Patricia seem to be involved in running the school after Charles death and Jenifer gives the school as an address  on a passenger list to the US in 1948.

The Bromley one as you probably know doesn't seem to have a sister Clare.
I can't spot her in 1939 but the younger children could have been evacuated Overseas given the Army background.Charles and Margery ,and 2 children are at Avisford.

I think you may have to get the marriage cert for James William Dawson.Ancestry suggests a birth 1921 Portsmouth but where that comes from I'm not sure.
