Ross & Cromarty / Re: Donald Fraser, Cromarty
« on: Saturday 20 July 13 09:23 BST (UK)  »
I still haven't managed to close this one out and it has me stumped.  I've been back to the Scotlands People Centre recently but to no avail.

The 1867 death entry is for a Donald Fraser, Fisherman from Ullapool, widower of Christina McDonald, married to Mary Mackenzie.  I have checked all other death entries i could see for Donald Fraser's.

The last trace i have is the 1861 census where Donald was living with his wife Margaret (and children Andrew, Margaret, Donald, Jane, Helen and James) at 188 Pier House, Cromarty, he was 48, and a Blacksmith at this point.

Anyone any ideas/suggestions?

Ross & Cromarty / Bachelor(s) Lane, Cromarty

I have one of my descendents (John Bain) living at what looks like No 1 Bachelors Lane, Cromarty on the 1871 census.  I can't seem to find this on any maps from near to this time however.  Does anyone know of this lane, and if it still exists, where it is / was?  The next entries on the census (either side of Bachelors Lane) are for Sandgate and Barclays Lane if that helps?

No, unfortunately just the fathers name (from her marriage certificate).

Thanks for that Agho - I've looked that one up - some additional information there but unfortunately no parents name registered for either Joseph or Mary.

I have bought credits for rootsireland.ie - does this site not allow you to view the actual certificates for the credits being spent???

Re topic above - I have been trying to do some research for my wife on her genealogy.  I have found her grandmother, Cecelia/Cecilia Campbell living in Co Tyrone, Ireland in both the 1901 and 1911 Irish census.  We know that her parents were American - her father was Dan Campbell - and that she was left in Ireland with an Uncle and 2 Aunts, and she ended up staying, iving and dying in Ireland.

She was born around the later 1880's.  In the 1901 census a sister called Alice was also listed in Ireland with the Uncle/Aunts.  Alice perhaps returned to America before the 1911 census as she does not appear there.

Any ideas on how to find out more on the American link?

Cork / Joseph Kelly & Mary Cooney, Ballydesmond

I am trying to do some work for my wife on her family tree but am new to Irish records (having taken years to master the Scottish one's)!

I have traced her grandparents Joseph and Mary Kelly (nee Cooney) through her mothers birth certificate from 1928.  At that stage Joseph was stationed in Ballydesmond (then named Kingwilliamstown) with the Civic Guard.  I haven't been able to trace either of their birth, death or mariage certs as yet, but my wife has an inkling that Joseph may have originated in Westmeath??

Any ides on next steps?

Tyrone / Re: Patrick Keenan & Cecilia Campbell, Gortin

Many thanks for all the assistance folks - very helpful.  This is definitely the right Patrick and Cecilia - my wife was aware that she was born in America so this tallies with the information above.  I think her father Dan was (Irish) American but not sure where in America the family were from.

Not really sure were to go looking for American leads?

I am trying to do some work for my wife on her family tree but am new to Irish records (having taken years to master the Scottish one's)!

I think the following is a lead from the 1911 census:

Gorticashel Upper, House 18, Trinamadan

McCormack Patrick 65 Male Head RC
McCormack Mary 62 Female Sister RC
Keenan Patrick 35 Male Visitor RC
Keenan Cecilia 23 Female Niece RC
Keenan Mary 2 Female Visitor RC
Keenan Patrick 0 Male Visitor RC

We think Patrick and Cecilia (nee Campbell) would be my wifes grandparents but I can't find either of them on the 1901 census or any trace of their marriage.

Anyone any ideas on the best next steps??

Indeed - would be very interested in the photo of the grave Salsera.  I'm afraid thus far I've hit the same brick wall with John Wright and Mary Brown.
