Hi
I have just found this information from an article called The madness of King George III: a psychiatrict re-assessment. It states:

It is said that his wet nurse, Mary Smith, was merely the wife of a gardener, George Smith, again implying the unscheduled arrival (George III was born 2 months premature) and break with usual protocol (Hibbert, 1998:8). However, examination of the credentials of Mary Smith show that she was a servant of Lady Archibald Hamilton and had previously acted as wet nurse to the future Sir William Hamilton (Bland Burges Papers, 1788: f.106)

After searching for Hibbert, 1998 and Bland Burges Papers, I have found nothing more.  I will keep searching.

I am researching this particular family and would be interested to see her admons.  I was led to believe as a child that we had a connection with George III, hence the reason for researching this line. Many of the family from this line seem to have married very well.

My direct ancestor obtained an important position in the London District Post Office in the early 1800's, but we have never been able to ascertain why and feel that the connection may be from George and Mary Smith and their line.

Have you managed to find any information on George Smith and whether in fact he was a gardener at the palace? Also who Mary Smith was and how she managed to be appointed to the position of wet nurse.
