Sorry I've been slow to respond and thank you Peter for the makeover. Fabulous job!
I'm going to have to do some digging to try and find out who in the family was a VAD. Thank you all.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Cheshire - Photo of Nurse
« on: Wednesday 17 February 21 20:22 GMT (UK)  »
My sister and I have recently inherited a number of family photographs. In one of the albums we found this photograph - its postcard format so I believe most likely to have been taken after 1902. Is anyone on here able to offer any more accurate dates based on the uniform that the nurse is wearing.
Thank you

Cheshire / Re: Macclesfield Asylum Hospital

Information on this website suggests that Parkside opened in 1871 - then named Second Cheshire County Asylum

Cheshire / Re: Nether Alderley and Broken Cross
« on: Saturday 01 April 17 23:44 BST (UK)  »
In the Cheshire Parish Register Database for the baptism of Amy Henshaw, it has the residence down as: "CHOR" (for Chorley). This has me a bit puzzled: There is not a Village near Alderley or Wilmslow called Chorley. Would this be a reference to Chorley Hall near Alderley please/ around there?
This part of your query caught my eye - I grew up not far from there and I've always thought that Chorley was the original name for Alderley Edge. I think the name change had something to do with the Railway Company. There was certainly a part of the village that was known as Chorley when I was growing up - it wasn't very well defined but certainly encompassed the area around Chorley Hall.

Hi all,
I've found a record on the Catholic Marriage records website - there is a Dispensation but I can't decipher the rest of the entry. Most of the other records just state Dispensation but this seems to have a bit more information. I wondered if it indicated a family relationship but just can't make anything fit and would welcome suggestions!

Thanks in advance,
Carra

Cheshire / Re: Find Ty Bach in Alderley Edge?
« on: Monday 01 June 15 23:27 BST (UK)  »
It might not be there anymore  :( - I think some of the houses on Brook Lane were lost when they built the Alderley Edge bypass (extension of the A34). In addition there is a 'trend' in the area for demolishing the old houses and building 'millionaires mansions'. On some roads there are hardly any of the 'old' houses left!
