Thanks for responding, Girl Guide,
John CANAVAN was born in Dublin in 1843.
His father, Michael was born abt. 1806, where in Ireland, I don`t know.
I don`t know anything of John`s mother, Catherine MULVANEY.
And I have no idea where Michael and Catherine were married.
John had a sister Jane, born 1839, Dublin. Jane married a Cornelius PIETERS in Victoria in 1856.
Cornelius was one of the miners involved in the Eureka Stockade debacle.
It was a Fenian uprising in Dublin in 1867 that John may have been involved in,  fascinating.
I had a copy of a letter written by John`s father written to John in Victoria after he left Ireland, making comments like he was glad that John got away safely.
I would love to get a copy of that letter again, I lost my copy to the black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, I lost my home to the fire and everything in it, including 20 years of family history research.
There is a Jenni who posted to the forum who I believe has a copy of the letter.
Norm.

Dear People,
I am looking for any info regarding John CANAVAN and Catherine MULVANEY,  my G.G. grandparents.
Their son John, my G. grandfather left Ireland in 1867 under a cloud, reputedly having been involved in an uprising in Dublin that year.
