Ireland / Re: BREEN family Ireland to England
« on: Monday 21 February 11 11:35 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for your prompt reply. Unfortunately the only info I have on Robert is what I've told you' I am not aware of any of his children being born in England but that's a good suggestion to follow up on. I have hIs son William's marriage cert and his father is shown as Robert. I have more on William's descendants but I' really more interested in finding the birthplace of the Breens in Ireland. A distant relative has suggested that Tyrone was the county but as yet I have been given no proof. She also said that William and his family moved to England around 1868.
I have searched census records with no luck so far but I may not have tried 1911 census for William. I imagine Robert would be dead by then. I have found two marriages in Ireland around the right time for Robert Breen - Mary Ann Armstrong, Betty Wilson or an Ellen Hamilton which appears the most likely as Robert's father is shown as John. However I have no other info to confirm this. I cannot find Robert's death either. I have been researching my family for 30 years now but this line is proving very difficult. Thanks for your advice. i will follow up on your suggestions.

Ireland / BREEN family Ireland to England
« on: Monday 21 February 11 02:44 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for help in finding Robert Breen's ancestry. He was born circa 1830 in Ireland. He had a son William born circa 1856 who was also born in Ireland but by1877 William was married to Mary Loftus and living in Co Durham. I have been told that Robert and his family migrated to England around mid 1860s but it could be earlier or later.
Can anyone find evidence of this family that moved to England. I have also been told the family originally came from Tyrone but I have nothing to confirm this. Robert may have been married to a Mary but this is also not confirmed. William may have had a brother John born 1862 also in Ireland. Any help appreciated.

Hi TR,
That's so exciting to find another person reseraching my Ann. I have a tree on Genes Reunited site but I have not added anything on Ann's ancestry as yet despite having received new information recently from a John Baldock and Peter Booth. I do have quite a lot on Ann and Simon's descendants. I am also fifth gen from Simon and Ann Ross. I am very happy to share info and I am very intigued as to where you fit in to my tree. Simon Ross would have been my great great grandfather.  :)Please contact me on this site or (*)
Cheers,
Rosemary (in Melbourne)

Hi Elizabeth, Thank you very much for your reply and the Baldock info. Every bit helps. I am determined to track down Ann's family. There can't be too many Ann Baldocks born in Lincoln/Wyham area in the period 1807-1809- can there? Her family still remain a mystery; I'll just have to hope someone recognises her name in my various posts.
Thanks again, Rosemary ::)

Hhi Geoff
This is what I have based my Baldock family theory on -
I  found George Baldock on the 1851 census living in Stoke Prior with his wife Fanny.
George Boldock  Head  age 50 Carpenter  born Sleaford
Fanny Boldock               age 45 born Wigston
Maried 1836 in New Sleaford.
I went to Leasingham Library and looked up Sleaford Church Records and found a christening for  George Baldock 4.5.1810   -  son of John and Elizabeth
Also a marriage for John Baldock and Elizabeth Thorp 1796.
I found several other children christened in the same church - children of John and Elizabeth.
William chr. 3.4.1807
Charles & Elizabeth - twins  chr. 8.10.1812
Henry chr. 22.4.1816     John  occupation - Innkeeper

I visited Ruskington cemetery where I found the headstone for John Baldock who died 26.Feb. 1859 - aged 84 years. Which means he was born 1775.
The 1851 census age of for John - 76 would be correct.
If Elizabeth was aged 59 she could not have married in 1796.
Where was George in 1841 - he was married to Fanny in 1836 but I do not have access to 1841 census.
Hope this will give you some background to my search.
Thanks Gay
I am very interested in this discussion. I am also researching Baldocks from Lincolnshire, in particular Ann Baldock, also known as Ann of Wyham, born circa 1808 Lincolnshire. She was transported to Australia in 1833 for stealing sheep from a John Thistlewood. I have since found that Wyham is near Louth so I am wondering if John and Elizabeth could be her parents or relations. I have not been able to find any  other info on her ancestry except her convict transportation details. I have her marriage record to Simon Ross in 1834 in Tasmania and details of their children: Lucy Ann, George, Mary and Simon. There is a mystery child- Harriet, from whom I am descended and for whom there is no birth record and we do not know if she is Ann's or Simon's, (from a previous relationship). Her father was listed as Simon Ross, mother unknown. Her death cert would suggest her birth was 1832 which would fit with her being Ann Baldock's daughter before she was transported. Ann Baldock was listed as "Single with 1 child" on her transportation record but there appears to be no child listed or mentioned thereafter. I hope I haven't confuse too many people. I would love to hear from anyone with info on Baldocks living in this area. Cheers, Rosemary

had a drive around Louth today to research Cuthbert links-there are several Baldock graves at http://beehive.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/default.asp?WCI=SiteHome&ID=6973&PageID=37264
(I only noticed because I used to live at a Baldock house in Kent and it rang some bells). There is an email address on the link-they may be able to provide details of the inscriptions
Monique
Thank you for the link. I have posted a message in their guest book.

Hi Frances, I'm not sure whether I have replied to this. Many thanks for your post. The information is interesting. I spend a lot of time on Family history but mostly through the Genes Reunited site which I have found excellent. I must check this site more often too. Regards, Rosemary

Thanks for your reply. I haven't come across a Helen Briggs in all my research- a little unusual for the time. I'll keep my eyes open for you. Good luck. Rosemary :)
