Armed Forces / Re: Joseph Newman Mayers stationed in India?

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I did the tree which includes Thomas Hambleton for a friend of mine back in 2012 and I haven't had a look at it for a while. What would you like to know? Could we communicate privately about this? I need to refresh my memory somewhat!

I was born  there in 1967 and adopted. I am in touch with my birth mother now and she said she never saw me when i was born - I was whisked away immediately. I don't know if this was common practice by the nuns.
Also she told me she was told that I was a boy and on my birth certificate I am down as a boy and even have the name 'Peter'! It was amended at a later date and I wonder if this is because she told the registrar that I was a boy and she had been told this by the nuns and had never seen me. I also wonder if there actually had been a baby boy born there on the same day who was also to be adopted and there had been a mix-up with the information. It leads me to think that there were a lot of Catholic girls going there to have babies that were to be adopted so even though it was a maternity hospital it was well used to dealing with unwanted babies too.

Waterford / A line of Gambons from Canty
« on: Friday 06 July 12 17:06 BST (UK)  »
I am researching a line of Gambons from Canty nr Whitechurch and am wondering if anyone has any info about them. I know there were a lot of Gambons in that area in the 19th century but the ones in question are Edmond Gambon, who married Margaret Flynn on June 19th 1864 in the Chapel in Aglish, and his father Maurice. I don't have a birth or death date for Maurice but I think Edmond was born circa 1836 and died in 1924. I can't find any more info about them in the 'usual' places. I do know they were both labourers.
If anyone has any info about Margaret and her father Michael Flynn that would be good too. She was born circa 1830.

I live in London so can't really but thanks. Maybe one day if I visit.
I think I will also order the 1908 marriage cert for John Hore tomorrow.

I have now had time to really sit down and look at this properly. Thanks all so much. I really think you are all on the right lines and it's the correct family.
The 1908 John Hoare marriage is wrong as I found a John Hoare (a widower) living with his parents in law who are Tiernans so the 1911 census and that makes the match for that marriage Mary Ann Tiernan.
So it's going to be one of those Bridgets matching the John Hore and a 1908 marriage.
I'll let you know what that birth certificate says (though I am prepared for it to be the wrong one!).

That looks very compelling.

Have you looked at other voters' lists?

I am wondering if Fanny/Frances was the single daughter and the 'Bridie' my friend's mother remembers was actually the mother i.e. Bridget and not a sister. She can't remember the name of the mother (i.e. her grandmother) at all.

Brilliant! I wonder if Kathleen was 'Kitty'?
'Fanny' - Frances?
