Family History Beginners Board / Re: Briggs
« on: Sunday 09 February 20 21:37 GMT (UK)  »

Hi thank you for taking time to reply, My Grandfather James Holdens married a,Catherine Anderson in 1934, my Grandads father on the marriage cert was Briggs Holden and his mothers name Ann their  children was James( my grandad) Sarah Alice and Margaret and may have had another child and at one point lived at Derby st Bolton. When we tried to find more out about Briggs Holden ( my great grandad) one of the leads led to a Peggy and Briggs Holden from Darwin  which may tie in with what Mabel Bagshawe came up with but when we looked for Briggs he comes up as a grandson which was illegitimate.and was wondering if he was the son of Ellen Briggs. Very confusing and very difficult as all my grandparents died before I was born and my parents died when I was younger so unfortunately no one to ask. we also think Briggs father was also called Briggs born 1800. Thank you and sorry for any confusion

Philip the date I was looking at that was wrong was ,1887 and the date you came up with for his death sounds right as I remember my mother telling me my grandfather died not long before I was born in 1957

Hi First of all let me say thank you so much for the replying.I think Matt 8 is on the right track I have a piece of paper with the address 11 Spread bury St on. I remember my mum telling me he was a maintenance  engineer. And my mother was born at 21 Morton st Failsworth. I'm sorry its also sketchy but that is what its been like on both sides of my family although Roots did help me find all my family on my mothers side, it was definitely an eye opener !. Unfortunately I have no one to ask as they have all passed away leaving very little info just pieces of paper with the  odd addresses and the odd random name . names

:) Hi Radcliff its a real opener isn,t it when you look back in time, can,t believe how many run off with others and how quick they re-married and any scandal just wasn,t spoke about!!! When you said to get a marriage cert for james which one would you think i should get, James Holden to Kathleen g Crocell 1939 Farnworth or James Holden Kathleen m Ramsden Darwen, Sorry to be pest, I am very nearly at the end of my Ancestry journey and i have loved every bit of it, this is a fantastic site and i have told so many people about it.
