We have a positive ID.
As I remember, there no big houses next door to the  Dumb Bell. Though Cliveden House of Astor family was about a quarter of a  mile away

Thanks for that. There were a lot of blacksmiths amongst the Kirtlands. The ones related to me were at Charlton on Otmoor in the late 1700s. I will take a look to see if I can find the house.
Coincidently, I used to live in Taplow in the late 1960s

Hi and thanks for your help Tazzie.

I see that Bethnal Green is mentioned but an not sufficiently well versed in the Kirtlandís related to my mother. But, I wonder, if the London Kirtlandís had any interaction with the Windsor Kirtland's I believe some were. Leonard F. b. Windsor 1885 seems to have made regular trips there before and after ww2.

Kirtland or Johns ?

I. Have seen the formers hospital records, but it was a long time ago.

Edit I have spotted the obvious clue :)

I do not recall seeing the name Cottonera and wonder how many soldiers
in that campaign suffered with malaria.

It looks like the odds to my idea in the op are small

Thanks for your help Bumble B

I am certain the great uncles son was in Salonica.
I had a load of details of him including a picture of him on a horse.
I am somewhat alarmed that I can not find them on the I-Pad that I normally use.
