Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Cant make out the occupation?
« on: Friday 18 November 22 12:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, hope that someone can help me understand what this occupation is meant to be.
Its from the 1901 census, does it say 'printer'?
Thanks in advance for any help  :)

Thanks Raybistre, as we already know that she was adopted by her aunt we didn't think that the new certificate would tell us anything.

Hopefully there were some kind of adoption records that may have contained some information as to who her biological father was (perhaps unlikely though) or why she was adopted. Seeing as adoption began to be properly registered and documented in 1927 and she was born in 1930 there should be some kind of documentation.

Thankyou Jebber for this insight.

We have always wondered why 'adopted' was written on her birth certificate. We have never found her new birth certificate with her adopted name on (which was 'Rogers').

We are trying to obtain her adoption records (hopefully there are some) to try and gain some insight into the circumstances of her adoption.

On the certificate it states that Jessie was 'adopted' and we know that she was adopted by her aunt so we assume the certificate is indicating that she was adopted from birth. Is this correct? Any help? Thanks :)

Thanks, I'm trying to see how much information I can get first and then maybe I can use that to get a better start on the search.  :)

The Common Room / How can I search Caribbean records?
« on: Thursday 28 September 17 19:18 BST (UK)  »
Hey all,

I am trying to do some research into some family members who come from Barbados but unsure how to get started. I have tried searching on Ancestry with the little information that we have but so far I have been unable to get ant results. I was trying to start with a family member who was born in the 1950s but I cannot find his birth.
Is there a way of starting off the research online?
I appreciate any help that can be give.
Thanks.

Thanks Nell, I did find that record as well but as groom has stated there is a possibility that Robert wasn't his biological father.

I did try gaining Williams birth certificate from the General Records Office but they replied saying that they couldn't find a record for a William John Heaps in the time period that we gave and it did make me wonder whether Robert was his biological father. I might have to try them again but by stating his surname and being Hames instead of Heaps.
