Dumfriesshire / Re: Laing and Johnston
« on: Monday 14 August 17 12:13 BST (UK)  »
The Laing family came from langholm,Dumfriesshire,Scotland. Thomas's parents were John and Mary(Bell)Laing.  I guess I just like to meet with genealogists because sometimes they are more aware then other people. I get an idea in my head, sorry. That can be like a virus you know ☺I recently did my DNA and filled up two holes in my tree.I had known someone was missing and I found them both. That helped me finish over here. I realize I may never find who her family was but I have had so many things just drop in from the blue. Thanks for your input             Sue P

Agnes(Nancy)Johnston left Scotland 1773-74. As far as I know she was alone on the trip, there was another family of Johnston's,head being Peter but no connection was made. The Laing's were on the same boat and Agnes(Nancy) married Thomas Laing after landing here, 1775. They lived in Argyle,Washington Co.,N.Y.

For our times,I was wondering if there was genealogy society. I could talk with people from it get a sense of cemeteries, places I might be interested in any chance of relatives still around. Maybe a special place Dumfries history.                       Sue P

Argyllshire / Re: MCINTYRE--perhaps better worded

It's not mine because they were here in N.Y. in 1790 and had two children Neil 1784 and Catherine 1785 in Scotland he and Elizabeth.  You will notice in the archives from Mull the authur fydf something like that that's Frank Fisher he is the clan record keeper of our MacQuarrie clan we started here in U.S and Can.  Those are all his records from the different members mine are not their I see as we don't know who Donald's parentage is It would be cool to be descendent of the clan chief but I'm not.
I wrote to Ian who runs Mull genealogy years ago and was a member of the message group He is dumbfounded by me. He has no one in his records. I keep checking though I had rejoined again to Mull genealogy just recently but got no hits when I entered Donald or Daniel. I used to.I checked what you sent me will go over it again but don't think luck is with us.  Thanks for all your help Geoff

 :DThanks:  .

:D My Interest keenly is you mentioned a Donald McQuarrie 1750 born to Lauchlan McQuarrie and Alicia McLean. What is the record source is it something I can look up?   There is someone on line who has a Little Lachy or something to that event as parents but he was born after our Donald.Lets just say they took my tree and put something obviously wrong on it. ???

The only Daniel was their grandson by John and he had a Daniel Jr. Donald is called Daniel in the 1800 Argyle Town Census with a family of 7 which is correct.I also found the family in the church records with Neil as head for some reason These are the first records of the church. That's the South Argyle church where Donald and Elizabeth are buried. The 1820 census yes does have Daniel instead of Donald as these two names are considered interchangeable. One of the first things I learned about names like John,Jack,Donald etc you'll find that. Also the record keepers change McQuarie to McQuire but in some cases well many I can see it is indeed McQuarie but read as other.
             I have done a book
The Descendents of Donald McQuarie and Elizabeth McIntyre of Argyllshire,Isle of Mull,Scotland.
Copies to descendents only. I also have my tree on Ancestry.com if you can see it I don't know?I hope this letter is more knowledgeable compared to some of my others resently!

My info is from family history, family bibles, history gathered before 1900 by a distant cousin, records off Ancestry.com and distant cousins who've found me and have letters and pics which they've shared. I'm trying to go back as I say not forward into North America I have all of Don and Elizabeth's married children's descendents and still have them finding me to this day filling in their family trees in minutes when they only just began.

They came to New York in 1790.

In the Argyle town Census the names of McIntyres are Peter,Duncan and Murphy.

My apologies  really to all--- thought I had modified and I have written it all new. All the ages are on the other query by me. I must have been very tired when I did this.

Elizabeth McINtyre  21 July 1762  Isle of Mull  - 28 August 1842 in Argyle,Wash Co., New York USA

Donald McQuarie            @ 1751   Isle of Mull  - 27 March 1824      Argyle,Wash Co.,New York  USA

Children born in  Isle of Mull Scotland     Neil on 3 Dec 1784   and   Catherine  15 Nov.1785

I have noted that in 1800 census Argyle Town Wash Co., New York  that there is a John McIntyre  I believe it was that might be a way to  find her parentage maybe she followed her brothers here and not Donald following family? Again my apologies      Sue P
