London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: John Nelson and Susan Churchill
« on: Monday 03 August 15 11:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi thanks for helping. I did find this marriage however there is nor toon of a George being born approx 1855/56 so can't link it as yet. Mind you I would like to it would make researching this line a lot easier. Cheers Trena

Hi there, the George Nelson you talk of born 1855? is actually my great great grandfather. He was born Glasgow,Scotland to Jacob and Frances Nelson. He emigrated to Australia aboard the Auriga bound for Melbourne.George saw a notice in the newspaper that had an Agnes Rowett in Brisbane looking for her brother.Agnes had just arrived in Australia.George had been friends with the family in Scotland,so when he saw the notice he contacted Agnes. They married in Melbourne then moved to Romsey/Rochford in Victoria, then later moving to NSW.George lost a son and a brother in the Mount Kembla mine explosion of 1902.We have been researching the Nelsons as Mary McKinlay Nelson is my g grandmother..They are a bit of an elusive bunch having immigrated from Ireland to Scotland. They are Ulster Scots...Cheers

Hi again, sorry for the delay in reply as ive been away.Thankyou,as you have definately filled quite a few gaps.My sister and I were curious as to why Beatrice,Ernest,Amanda and the children immigrated as their father was still alive until 1932,their mother passing in 1909..Beatrice and Amandas mother was Harriet Sylvester, she came from a huge family and in one of the cemetaries around Tinsley/Sheffield they hold amongst the oldest graves. You have got my curiosity up on one of the brothers dying WW1 as i hope im right in having found his grave, passing in 1930.The following children were Gertrude,Marian,Beatrice,Henry, thomas,Betsy and the youngest Amanda. They are a hard family to follow in Sheffield England as their father was Henry Morris born 1854,and there were a few in the area.I am going to order his birth certificate as this family has me mystified.I have also all of the electoral rolls for Beatrices family in Australia trying to track their lives down a bit.Im very wow on Ernest doing the building he did, because as a child my father took me to Manly a fair bit and we used to walk straight past the pub.We were so close but never knew that we were actually in the suburb his mother lived for many years.I was born in Willoughby, and the police sergeant who adopted my father was stationed at Balgowlah on the same main road into Manly.Very close indeed only by i think a few klms.I am so sorry your mum is suffering, and i honestly cant tell you if it runs down our line.Dad passed away from a stroke at age 62,but also had Waldenstrohm disease which is mainly unknown form of cancer. He had 4 children,us 3 girls and a boy.Its good to find out what health issues there are in the family very much so.I would just like to add that my dad was tall being 6ft 2" with blonde hair and blue eyes, the color is strong in all his children and i have carried my dads height being 5"11.
Thankyou so very much for taking the time to write me,i am 10 steps closer to finding out about us and have a lot more information.Seems though the family is very small in Australia being only your family,Colins and my brother and sisters
Cheers and such a pleasure to hear from you

Hi back,Thankyou so much for replying to my query.
Yes we are related,i have been looking for some sign of this family forever.I have searched to no avail for the last 3 years since finding out who my grandmother was.My grandmother is Amanda Morris, sister of Beatrice Bailey.Amanda and Beatrices parents are Hariett and Henry Morris are your gg grandparents and my great grandparents.I have the shipping record for Beatrice and Ernest, their two children Edith and Grace,my grandmother Amanda also with them at age 17,year 1912.There is much more to the story of Amanda who lived with Ernest and Beatrice for a few years in Manly.i was only asking mainly as i dont know what my grandmother looks like and was hoping somebody out there had at least one photo.Amanda only had one child, unmarried and adopted him out at birth. For 33 years she lived only a 20 minute drive from him and he never knew.My father passed away in 1995 sadly.Thankyou very much and i really appreciate you replying to my message,i really do as you have filled many gaps for me.If you ever find a photo of family i would be most appreciative if i could possibly have a copy if possible. If you like i have birthdates for Ernest,Beatrice etc to share
Thankyou sooo much
Debbi

hi back malcolm, sorry ive only just seen your post..believe it or not most of henry morris children were born in carlton so i think this may be one and the same..i kept getting hits of a george morris being henrys father..maybe elizabeth married george and he either died,or she left him.ive noticed the youngest child is 3 years old, wondering if elizabeth was left a widow or something with very young children and remarried.i can find henry where he was born and when but thats it,no burial nothing.
thanks for putting up the census of the family and i really think this is the henry morris im looking for.
by the way who was your g grandmother?..and was it that line that came to australia?..henry morris"s two daughters moved to australia in 1912 which were beatrice and amanda.beatrice had her husband ernest and two girls grace brenda and edith with them.
regards

Have you found anything more about Henry Morris born 1854, Debbie?     I had a quick look in Family Search and there is a Henry Morris born October 1854 with parents Henry Morris and Elizabeth Heaps.   However the only Henry Morris I can see of the appropriate age in 1861 comes up as aged 7 years born Worksop but living in Carlton and described as 'Stepson'.

So if parents were Henry and Elizabeth, what has happened here?

Water Lane is at Carlton-in-Lindrick which is close to Worksop and where my great grandmother was born.   So we possibly have a link, though I cannot see it at the moment.   Malcolm(Melbourne)

hi back zamir,
Yes i am doing both Morris and Roberts tree, though Morris is on my fathers maternal side..and Roberts is my mothers paternal side. Then again you just never know if families link up..It would be lovely to get in contact with your father.I do know when the Roberts moved to Australia in 1843,i think a son or grandson moved over Sydney way which would explain Canberra most likely.Canberra is 3 hours fom Sydney. What a headache this family is considering they came to Australia as free settlers. You and i share John and Leonora Roberts. They are my ggg grandparents having come from London and Wales. The Morris family coming from Worksop and Sheffield.Thankyou so mch for your help,i appreciate it very much..

hi back zamir, great to hear from you..i just had a look at my family tree and yes we are one and the same tree..your eliza kate roberts was the sister to my great great grandfather jabez roberts who married katherine freeman.most of the family stayed in south australia but my gg grandfather jabez moved to melbourne.i havent found a lt on jabez,i only know he is buried at st kilda with his wife and grown son reginald and that he worked the rail and lived in south yarra.their daughter annie is my great grandmother and she is a hard nut to crack as well.apparently she married a craven,i cant find anything on him, found out while she was married and pregnant apparently he was married already.she gave birth to my grandfather and raised him herself with no mention of craven afterwards.whether this is a tall tale and she was unmarried to begin with i dont know but she did bring her son up as a craven roberts.i have been chasing my tail on who john and leonora my ggg"s parents are.ive hit a brick wall and have been for a long while..the morris i am chasing is a different branch..roberts being my mothers paternal side...morris being my fathers maternal side.
my amanda morris came to australia and settled in manly nsw in 1912.she came to australia with her sister an brother in law ernest and beatrice bailey.i havent found anything as yet to say more siblings came over to australia, but you never know.i have brick walls in a few places but would love to find out more on john and leonora..thankyou so much for getting in contact with me i really appreciate it....debbi.... :D

hi back to you,
im sorry i wish i did have a marriage certificate but i think i will have to get one as im having massive problems after many months of trying ot find the right henry morris as there were a few back then.i have 1861 census onwards which shows my henry as stepson of thomas cuff and son of charlotte.i have no proof yet of this to clarify henrys mother remarried..only thing i found that could be henrys father is a george morris, yet again no proof..this family is driving me crazy as..i have all henry and harrietts childrens birth dates, names etc..but its like the whole family was hardly known as there is almost nothing even on the children.ive only got bits and pieces.i even got harrietts whole line back of the sylvesters there was no problem there.
i have seen elizabeth heaps on the internet but again no proof..im in australia so sometimes its hard to be able to drop in somewhere for records..and ive been doing family history about 3 years now but as far as research im a newbie still and have much yet to learn on research..thing is i dont give up.if your henry morris married harriet colton then that would be a different henry to mine.
i have my grandmothers death certificate and on it states my great grandparents are henry morris and harriett sylvester of sheffield..would love ot find their graves, though i think not much hope there..debbi...:)
