Thank you all for your helpful replies.  It's going to take a lot of experimentation on my part to learn how to use some of these.  Waynenort, I tried the redeye correction on the site you mentioned.  Without your clear photos and direction, I never would have found where the redeye bit was. Thanks!  i'm so grateful to all of you for sharing your expertise.

Thanks again for these suggestions. I will go thru them and hope one is simple enough for my skills. I did watch the YouTube video and it was quite a process to get rid of the red eye.  I guess I should have added that my family are all blue-eyed so the eyes have to turn blue.  I don't know if that's possible altho the Windows 10 photo editing did it pretty well.  Thank you again!

Thank you so much for your replies.  Could I ask if any of these do red eye correction?  That's a big problem for me.  And it has to be simple to fit my abilities! Thanks again.

Photograph Resources, Tips, Tutorials / Photo editing question
« on: Monday 30 October 23 17:26 GMT (UK)  »
I have been using Microsoft Windows 10 photo editing to do simple fixing of family photos--red eye, clarity, some color correction.  Now they have replaced that with a new program? software? that is useless.  It does none of those things.  Can anyone recommend something simple, even if it's not free?  I'm not in a league with many people here in terms of restoration but this has left me--and a lot of others--very frustrated.  I'd really appreciate some advice.

Ireland / Anyone know if Y-IRL messages are still online?

When Yahoo ended its lists, Y-IRL, hosted by Jane Lyons, seems to have disappeared.  There was a lot of great info on that board but I can't seem to find it.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Is it archived online anywhere?  Jane's website doesn't seem to be available anymore either. Thanks.

Thank you, Peter, and thank you, Trishanne, for these wonderful restorations.  I am amazed at both your skills in doing this and your generosity of giving your time and talent here.  I am really thrilled to see this treasured image restored--actually probably better than it was when it was new.

Many, many thanks.  All our family will be so excited to see this. Your work is deeply appreciated.

Hello everyone,
Attached is a photo of my great-grandparents and their first four children. I took the photo from a tintype.  I would be very grateful for any help in restoring this to as clear an image as possible, leaving my great-grandmother's fly-away hair and my great-grandfather's crooked eye.

I have exact birth dates for the parents and children. The infant was born in November 1894 and my great-grandmother is wearing a straw boater--and no one is wearing a coat--so I assume this was late spring/early summer of 1895.  My grandmother is the toddler held by her father. You can imagine that this is a very special family photo.

Thank you as always for your help.
