Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / John Phillips, Roseside, Molleston, Templeton
« on: Monday 13 November 17 07:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Here is a snippet from our family Bible:

"John Phillips of Roseside in the Parish of Templeton in the County of Pembroke, South Wales.
Married about the year 1768. Had Issue: 1st Francis; 2nd John and a Daughter. "

John was my 6xg grandfather. I`m trying to find information relating to him, specifically, I`m trying to find out where/when he was buried. I know Roseside is very close to (and associated with) Molleston Baptist Church. Would anybody be able to look up his name if any M.I.s from there exist?

His son Francis was married at Harroldston St. Issells, but I can`t find any sign of his father there either.

Many thanks in advance,

Owen

Hi Megan and John,

Before I forget, here`s my email!

okiowen@gmail.com

I`m glad to hear that you were able to get some confirming, and even new, info from my last mail.

I hadn`t realised that Thomas Harris who bought the buildings was also living with them in 1871 - I wonder if there is some family connection between them? I`ll have to have a look on Genuki.

I can`t wait to see your notes!

As for Okinawa, I arrived here from Barry in 1998 to teach English (and surf!), and I`ve been here ever since :-)

Thank you again for your message,

Owen

Hi Megan and John,

Great to be in touch with you.

With regards to Zecariah, you probably have the info already, but through Census addresses I was able to get old map and modern satellite images of the houses the family lived in at Ffrwd-y-brithyll and Ty'n-y-ceunant. Also, paper cuttings of an auction in 1875 where auctioneer Lewis Williams sold both houses to a Mr. Harries of Halesowen. They came up for auction again in 1900, but it seems there were no buyers on that occasion.

Hi John and Dolgellau,

I believe I`m descended from the John Evans and Margaret of Llanuwchllyn in this thread, who were married in 1822. My line is through their daughter Sarah, but they did have a son, Zecariah Evans, born in 1829 (and five other children).

It`s been a while since you both posted on this, I was just wondering if either of you had any further info on that family? The outlines of my research can be seen  here (click on a name to read more):

Pembrokeshire / Re: Pembrokeshire Photographers 1860-1920
« on: Monday 09 February 15 02:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,
I`m hoping this portrait may be of interest to those of you here, as it may well have been made by one of the photographers under discussion.
Here is as much information about it that I know of. The portrait seems to be a cross between a photograph and a charcoal sketch. The subjects are my GGG Grandparents, John Lloyd (c.1816 Warren - 1879) and Mary (nee Rees, c. 1818-1888 of Penally). John`s father George was from Pembroke and they moved to Monkton around 1845. The Census finds them as follows:
1851 East End Back, Pembroke
1861 Green Alley
1871 Main Street.
Judging by Mary`s clothing, I`m guessing that the portrait was made around 1863?
I haven`t been able to get any info from the back yet as it is in safekeeping in Wales, whilst I live in Japan!
Apologies on only providing a link (below) to the portrait, but I don`t have the skills to make it a smaller file for posting here directly.
If anybody has any comments that may deepen my understanding of it, I love to hear them.
Thanks in advance,
Owen

Hi Fredito,
Are you still searching for info about David Humphreys? His brother Richard was my GG Grandfather and I have collected a bit of info about the other siblings. I also think I have pinned down their parents and the house where they used to live.
