Is there a register for this cemetery or a map showing showing dates for burials or at least showing which section is for CofE. Looking for James Jones b 1840 d1901 I got this info from Durham Records Online
Cemetery Registers, Easington District - Record Number: 76442.12 Location: Seaham, County Durham Cemetery: Princess Road Cemetery Denomination: any 23 Oct 1901 James Jones, age: 61, wagonwright
My Grandmother from Selkirk married a second time a gentleman from Galashiels in 1933 in Canada. In 1947 my mother took a ship to Scotland to visit her relatives on her way home she landed in New York City. On the customs form it stated: Residence Location: Canada; Residence Description: Marital Status: Single; Relative Relation to Head: Uncle.
Actually the head of the household in Canada was her step dad. Both my mum and her sister refused to be adopted. So (finally) my question is it common in Scotland to call one's step dad "uncle".
John Cowley was born in Corfu in 1823 while the British were administrating it after some war. He is listed as a British Subject in English census' so his father would have been a British Subject. Anybody know how research his birth or get info on his parents. John ended up as a servant for some Lord near Knutsford near Manchester so I'm thinking his father had a similar profession and was not in the military. Thanks.
I don't think so but I really don't keep track of 2nd cousins etc. have enough trouble with my direct relatives? My relatives lived in Kirkdale later on Arnot Road near Anfield Cemetery and Everton FC and later on Birkenhead. Just returned from Liverpool and really liked it. Regards, David.
Thanks for the replies unfortunately those aren't my John Cowley's. Mary Jane his wife lived quite long. Left Liverpool in the 1920's for Oz. I've asked for death certs for a couple of John Cowley's but not what I was looking for. John Cowley the son joined the forces in May 1898. Thanks again. I guess I've just reached a dead end.
My John Cowley was born in Knutsford (near Manchester) on 15Nov1846. Sometime between 1851 and 1861 he moved to Liverpool. In the 1891 census he was living at 6 Arnot Street in Liverpool by 1901 his wife Mary Jane Cowley (nee Brown) is listed as a widow. When his son (John) joined the army to fight in the Boer War he is not listed as next of kin so I'm thinking he died around 1892-1895. I have asked for info before but without success. I've reached a deadend :-(. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
