Derbyshire / John Toothill baptism at Hathersage
« on: Friday 12 December 14 21:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I was hoping someone may be able to help me with a brickwall please. One of my ancestors was John Toothill who was born circa 1742. He married in Sheffield in 1769. I am almost certain that he had a brother named Richard Toothill who married in Sheffield in the same year. They both had children and lived their lives in Sheffield. From what i can work out the two Toothill brothers look like they were from Hathersage. Richard baptized in 1741 to Richard and Rachel. My problem lies with John. There is a John baptized in Hathersage with the same parents in 1740 but he also appears in the burial register not long after. I was wondering if the couple had another John but his baptism for some reason i cannot find. From his burial record his age adds up to him being born circa 1742 so it could be possible that they had another John after having Richard.
Hope i haven't confused you.
Any help much appreciated

Thanks
Richard

I am very grateful to you for taking the time out to look for me. The age of Benjamin is helpful as it narrows it down. I think he may have been born in Edale in Derbyshire in 1772 and the age adds up. Just need to find a link now.
Thanks again
Richard

Hello
I was wondering if anyone was visiting the Borthwick Institute in York and would possibly look me up a marriage license for me please?
Benjamin Ridgway and Hannah Toothill marriage by license at the Sheffield Cathedral St Peter & St Paul on the 7th April 1793. I was hoping the marriage license may hold some more important information (especially on Benjamin who i am unable to trace).

Thankyou
Rich

Thanks so much for looking for me. Although there is no mention of William it may still be helpful. If you could send me the transcript that would be brilliant. My email address is richardbeeley78@hotmail.co.uk.
Thanks again

Hi
I was just wondering if you managed to get to the records office the other day? No worries if not.
