For Sale / Wanted / Events / HUGE bundle of Your Family Tree magazines and CDs
« on: Friday 29 April 11 18:01 BST (UK)  »
I'm having a clear out and have about 75 editions of Your Family Tree magazine (from issue 7 to 88) plus all the CD's and occaisional booklet guides and charts.

I'm happy for them to go in a job lot, or if you want a single issue to complete your own collection then that's fine too.

Obviously given the weight they would be collection only (for the bundle - I'll post an individual copy), or I'm happy for you to arrange a courier. I'm in South Wales.

I was going to stick them on eBay for a tenner, so I'll take any similar offers.

PM me to discuss.

Thanks

Amy

The Common Room / Re: Who is Jonah Blackwell?
« on: Friday 24 December 10 13:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Amy,

There is a Jonah Blackwell b. (Jun Q., 1843, Stroud, 11, 428)  :-\

I think that this Jonah died in the Wirral in Cheshire in 1845 - http://www.ukbmdsearch.org.uk/certapp.php?type=deaths&data=BLACKWELL|Jonah|Birkenhead|Wirral|1845|1845||WR%3aBIR%2f4%2f76|B|33243|cheshire|WR|2&lang=

On a positive note I have ascertained that the 1843 Jonah's mother was Esther Dickenson, and that she and a Henry (!) married in 1841 in Stroud.

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Direct reference search on Ancestry

Oh, and you may need to select "old search" too.

Pauline

Ah ha! Good old 'Old Search' much better in my opinion.

Thanks Pauline, this worked a treat. Family not there, but at least I'm certain. :)

Census and Resource Discussion / Direct reference search on Ancestry

Does any Rootschatter know if it is possible to do a search on Ancestry if you know the Reference and folio number?

I want to look at the inhabitants of St James St, Bath which is reference HO107/1943 Folio 409-411 but it seems almost impossible to do this search as Ancestry input feilds are geared towards personal data.

I browsed through images last week for a similar search but this is really time consuming.

Hoping someone can help.

Thanks

Monmouthshire / Re: Castle which on
« on: Wednesday 22 December 10 11:29 GMT (UK)  »
Vik,

I'd say it was Caerphilly.

If you look at this image, you can really see the similarities. http://my.opera.com/DANGKIEN87/albums/showpic.dml?album=774036&picture=10453175

Your photo looks like there is grass / scrub land between the gentleman and the castle, which would place the photo pre-1958 as this is when the moat was reflooded.

Hope this helps.

Polarbear and Spidermonkey,

Thanks. Yes, I agree it could say Abergavenny and there is def a scribble that could be 'mon' after 7 for Henrietta's age.

Interesting both Henry and James always give their place of birth diffrently on each census. Which makes tracing them a little tricky.

The Common Room / Who is Jonah Blackwell?

Hi Rootschatters,

I'm hoping this mystery might pique some interest, it has certainly got me stumped.

I have found a family in the Wales (Newport St Woolas) 1861 census (RG9; Piece: 4023; Folio: 43; Page: 27)

Henry Blackwell 39 Stone Cutter
Mary Jane Blackwell 28
Jonah Blackwell 14 Stone Cutter
James Blackwell 9
Henrietta Blackwell 7

For those who have access to the original image the entry is squished at the bottom of the page and the children and wife are cramped into two lines. I can't read the birth places for the children.

Henry and Mary Jane (Jones) married in St Swithin's, Walcot, Bath in 1852.

The family moved around a lot. In 1871 they are in St Paul, Bristol (RG10; Piece: 2529; Folio: 22; Page: 7) and in 1881 they are in St George, Bristol (RG11; Piece: 2489; Folio: 95; Page: 22)

I can't find a birth / death for Jonah Blackwell and he doesn't appear on any other census. I also can't find Henry on the 1851 census either.

Can anyone trace this mystery man?

Thanks
