There was Stuttafords in Adderley street which opened about 1860. You could also try  "memories of Cape Town" on facebook.

South Africa / Valuation rolls
« on: Tuesday 08 September 20 14:43 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know of a site with a list of owners and occupiers of buildings in Cape Town similar to the valuation rolls in Scotlandspeople. Looking for 1940 - 1970.

Faster on the draw than me, Gadget. I was hoping to see if there was any resemblance in the two faces. She does look good considering the tragedy of all her children gone before her.
Sending a pm, thanks for the offer.

Yes Gadget, You are exactly right. This is the family from Stewarton. How do you do that ? ?
Martha Bower,  wife of Andrew b.1853, died in 1923 so she would be in her late 60's or thereabouts when this photo was taken.
Andrew b. 1887 was not married at the time of his death at the end of WW1.
The photo confused me slightly as she looks so different from the earlier ones I have of the Bower family taken about 1890. Probably on this site somewhere for a tidy up.
 :) :)

Thank you for the help everyone. I should have asked for Mrs. B's age at the same time. Anyone got an idea ?  :) :)

If someone could put an approximate date on this photo it would help me decide whether this Mrs Bower is the Mother or Wife of Andrew Bower.
Photography by A McGregor of Kilmarnock.

It's many years since I did a lot of research into this Simon family and stopped when too many brick walls arrived. My interest is in the family in general and where they came from. Erna was the one with most details on various sites. I was told they came to SWA after 1st WW but if Erna was born there in 1914 they may have arrived before the war. Erna had a daughter with 1st husband Schmidt. She died in 1978 but I traced her husband who told me that 'his late wife was a Schmidt when they married after her parents remarried'. Perhaps they just got together again.
Thank you for the details from FamilySearch. I have had no luck accessing any records for Namibia, they just won't open for me although I did get the baptism record from somewhere.
Really appreciate your help.

Ye, I'm fairly sure this is her. I have a birth date for her as 1924 but this seems very young to have been married and divorced 20 years later !. I think the archives will not open until level 1 but  will try next week in case anyone is working behind locked doors.
Hope you are safe and the 3SD's are getting out for some exercise now. :) :)
