Having had another look at what you have found out, it looks as if Arthur Lacey is not the right man. The aunt described him as "a nice lad". He probably didn't even know about the pregnancy. Hopefully the DNA test will shed some light. Thanks again for your endeavours - it always was a long shot.

Thank you all for your responses. I will go through them all shortly. In answer to your questions. Yes, she is going to do a DNA test. Such a sad story. Her mother gave her up for adoption at birth (privately), never revealing the father's name. When she was finally found, she wouldn't have anything to do with her daughter and is now deceased. The only clue to her father's identity has been an aunt who said his name was Arthur, a soldier and he lived in the same road, Grayham Rd. So we are really clutching at straws. My friend is elderly now and would love to know her origins before it is too late. Thanks again.

My friend is looking for her father. She thinks his name is Arthur J Lacey who lived at 2 Grayham Rd, New Malden with Edward A Lacey and Francis R Merritt in 1948. We think Arthur was a soldier, but can't find him anywhere else. He was probably born around 1926, give or take a couple of years, but no idea where. Can anybody help, please?

Many thanks to both of you for that information. It will be very useful in my research to the 2 cottages right next door.

I'm trying to find this Inn on the 1911 census. From 1861 to 1901 it appears on the Boxley EDs. The landlord was John Haywood. But I can't find it in 1911, 1921 or 1939. Can anyone help, please?

Thank you so much, everybody. Still a few anomalies but it looks as if there is enough to go on now. Thanks again. Tessa

The earliest record of Sydney Valentine Allen I have is from 1918 when he married Sarah Anna Jones in Swansea. His father is named as John Allen, deceased, a police sergeant.
Sydney was a vicar at Marston with Whitgreave, Staffordshire until he became rector at Iddesleigh, Devon in 1933.
There are two other Sydney Valentine Allens (would you believe!) but I don't think either of them is the one I'm looking for.
I'd be very grateful for some help in finding his parents.

Thank you all for your help. I don't think I can go any further on this one.
Jon - it looks likely that the Thomas you found (b.1858 Bristol) could have been Henry's brother, given the occupation of baker and the father's occupation of photographer, a rare occupation in those days. Thanks for that.
Thanks again everyone
