I'm in the "it amuses me" camp.  Whilst my offline tree is a different matter, my Ancestry tree has no family photos attached, in fact it has nothing that hasn't come from Ancestry in the first place.  Except ahnentafel numbers, and that's what amuses me.  Complete strangers with my parents in their tree bearing those anhentafel numbers.  You'd think I'd remember growing up with these siblings  :o

The random ahnentafel numbers make it clear that these "foreign" trees haven't been built the hard way.  There is obviously some means of cobbling together different ancestry trees with minimal clicks/keystrokes.  I've taken an Ancestry DNA test and it seems thrulines may be how it happens.  Click on any ancestor with matches on the thrulines page, if in the Relationships (tree view) tab there are individuals in green with "evaluate" against them, a few more clicks seems to be all it takes to add entire branches.

I'm disappointed to not have been invited yet, given that Ancestry evidently think so highly of me.  My proof?  Four days ago, a notification, "here is an interesting detail about Eliza Linton.  Explore this hint now".  So I did explore the hint.  It was for someone else's tree.  Eliza had a solitary source "ancestry family trees".  Ok let's view these trees, perhaps one of them has something I don't.  Trees was a bit optimistic.  Just one.  Mine  ???

The marriage index, if you're talking about the GRO index, names only one party although later ones do give the spouse surname.  Both parties are indexed separately.

You can edit the marriage fact for John to add spouse Ann, then any sources attached should link to both parties.  And sometimes Ancestry puts multiple "facts" for the same marriage, when I come across this in my tree I delete the extra "facts" and attach all appropriate sources (eg gro entry, parish record, parish index, bishops transcript) to the one remaining, making sure it's linked to both husband and wife.

Go to myheritage.com, click DNA, select "Upload DNA data".  Apparently you won't have to pay an unlock fee to access the tools.  Offer expires 9th March.

Sasbear, if you've not found a suitable birth or bap, have you considered that Elizabeth may have been illegitimate and her mother subsequently married Thomas GUEST?  There may also be a bigger gap in age between Elizabeth and her husband William BRADSHAW than you are expecting (the age at death is only as good as the informant's knowledge).

The shared cM tool on DNA painter will give you an idea of whether you should be looking at GGPs or a generation further back.  Your own age and that of your match will also come into play.  If there is a significant difference in your ages you could be looking at a once or even twice removed relationship to one another.

Full 2nd cousins share a pair of GGPs (husband AND wife).  Half 2Cs would share only one GGP (husband OR wife).  2C1R means the shared ancestor couple is GGP to one of you and a generation further back (GGGP) for the other.

He wasn't the informant on a death cert I suppose?  That would very possibly give his address, and be easy to lose track of as it would be a record that doesn't directly relate to him.
