Armed Forces Resources / Re: KOSB photos from India 1930's. Is your relation one of these?
« on: Saturday 23 September 17 10:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi Gillian, I've attached a photo of three KOSB soldiers. The one in he middle sat down is my Grandad John Ridge and on the back of the photo it says two names. They are John Mahoney & Tommy Coyle. I guess that means Tommy is on the right as you look at it. My Grandad joined the KOSB aged 19 in 1928 so I guess that's when this photo was taken. My Grandad was from Glasgow so I wonder if Tommy was from there or perhaps they all joined up around the same time. I do know that my Grandad ended up serving in India and later on he was at Dunkirk.
Hope you enjoy the photo. Regards Carolynn

Thank you to hallmark and conahy calling for your help and the links, which I am researching further. Also big thanks to my luck! for an amazing find. It explains a lot. They only had 2 children which I thought was strange. Margaret born 1872, James 1873 then died 1874. Also, on the copy of the daughter's birth certificate it says carman but I originally thought it was barman, so thanks.
Now that I know the birth is 1839, I will research further to find Martin's parents. I also now think  that his wife Mary Tobin may have re-married as she was still young. More branches on the tree!
Thanks again to you all, excellent work.

Searching for a marriage Martin Toban (later changed to Tobin) to Mary Kealy in Kilkenny.
I'm assuming the marriage was in Castlecomer around 1870 because of births of their 2 children.

22/1/1872  Margaret Toban         Gurteen, Castlecomer, Kilkenny
16/6/1873  James Aloysius Tobin               Castlecomer, Kilkenny
There is a note attached to copy of Margaret's birth cert. from I believe, the parish priest of Clough parish, Co. Kilkenny. Any help much appreciated.

Lookup please for naturalization record for Mary Agnes Ridge (nee Moylan) who left Scotland (lived in Glasgow) and emigrated to USA Boston Massachusetts. I believe she was born in England abt.1877/8 and hope this record will confirm her birthplace and year of birth. She married George Moylan in Boston 1899 and died 8/10/1946 in Boston, Suffolk, Mass. Please can someone help. Thanks.

Thanks Terry. What clarity you've got with the photo. It's amazing what you've done.
You're right, it is a great photo and as it's the only one we've got with his uniform, it makes it very special. Thanks for making it extra special. Regards Carolynn x
