I am looking for someone who had a heading of John Teta Bethnal Green Middlesex ... they wrote through "Curious" but I can't reply.........
I can help here as Pottier was a direct relative to me.
                                         They wrote the below:-
I am seeking information about my great-great-great-great grandfather John Teta. His 1839 will states that he is a weaver at 70 Church Street Bethnal Green. He married Elizabeth Pottier in 1785. They had at least three daughters, Elizabeth (1791), Esther (1793-1872) and Harriott (sic" (1799) all christened at St Matthew's Bethnal Green. Between 1835 and 1839 John Teta and his grandson, Matthew John Lill, were the licensees of the White Hart, Bethnal Green Road. John Teta died in 1839. In the will John mentions his nephew James Potter or Pottier.
Surname Keywords: Teta Potter Pottier Lill

Hi Trista, this is a very late reply and you may have more info than I.
I am doing the history for my friend who is a Tilt descendant and it is very difficult as they mostly passed down the same name to their children on the males side.
However, I have a Thomas Tilt born 1796 Bromsgrove who married Sarah Rowe 26th July 1823 in Bromsgrove.  (same info as you)
I also cannot find his parents YET....I usually only go back to gr gr gr but I still like to name the parents.
This Thomas is my friends gr gr gr grandfather and I got this info from Ancestry.
They had a daughter Ann 1824
A son John 1826
A daughter Elizabeth 1828
A son Charles 1834-1870
It is this Charles who is the gr gr grandfather to my friend.

I do have a truck load of information, and am doing a scrap book...but not yet...until I have confirmed so much with my friend and maybe he doesn't know because he was born in Australia.
Charles Tilt married a Dinah Miles 25/12/1853
and one of their children William links to my friend also.

Hope this helps.

Hi Trish.....

John Thornton born 1818 died January 1840 aged 22 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales, this was the same year that his son, John Henry Thornton was born.....sad
John Thornton was the one married to Mary Ann Roberts.
Mary Ann remarried 5 yrs later in Oct 1845 to Samuel Ross Dessieu Lash - who also died 5 yrs later in 1850...wow.
It is the above John Thornton whose parents I cannot find...also Mary Ann Roberts mother..her father I believe was William Roberts ... possibly married or lived with a Catherine Tucker ????? so that maybe her mother.

I also believe that the surname of Outerbridge is incorrect (which doesn't help eh) and on the 1851 Census it shows them as Stephen and Ann Cuterbridge living with them was Mary Ann Lash ex Thornton (nee) Roberts was living there with her then 10yr old son John Henry Thornton.

I have all the info. on John Henry Thornton as this was my friends great grandfather..

Some of the info is incorrect when you research and it gets so confusing.

Thank you for the information about Mary Ann leaving everything to her son John Henry Thornton, my friend will be very interested in that.  Funny, because Swansea is in Wales (maybe next door). I'm in Aust so I haven't travelled to Wales only England....wish I had.
How do I get her will in 1861......is it on Ancestry?

And no, John Thornton's  14th Oct 1838 marriage does not mention father/mother.. I've checked Free Family Search as well....need more research if possible LOL

I think that the wrong John Thornton has confused you with his death showing him 11 yrs old.
And the John Thornton born 1818 was the one who died in 1840 aged 22 in St.George East London.
Whether that is St. George East, London or St. George, East London...wonder what he was doing there.????
His son, John Henry Thornton born 1840 died March 1885 aged 45

Only do this if you want to as I have all the Census records of boy....it's just those darn Gr Gr Gr grandparents names  ???

Looking for my friends Gt Gt Gt grandparents on both sides.....
John Thornton born 1818 Swansea, Wales married Mary Ann Roberts born 1818 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales
Don't know John 1818 parents   but do know.....Mary Ann Roberts 1818 father is William Roberts

Mary Ann Roberts married again in 1845 to Samuel Ross Lash ... 5 yrs after John Thornton died Jan 1840.
Samuel Ross Lash's father was William Lash

I am searching for the names of the wives of William Roberts 1781 and William Lash and both parents of John Thornton born 1818

Any suggestions.....I've searched Ancestry and Family Search  >:(

« on: Monday 24 April 17 13:11 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for all your information.  Most of it confirms what I found......I also believe that Sarah Morley was Isaacs 1st wife and she would be the legitimate gr gr gr grandmother of my friend along with her 5 children.

Susan who was born March 1834?? is my friends gr gr grandmother& married to Charles Gotobed.

Many thanks for your time.....a lot of work and a lot of interesting fun.  I might post more queries on her later.
