Lynf, you may already have this but the twins born to Michael McKenna/Bridget Conroy(Connery) John & Francis were born on 11 October 1857 Stevenson,Ayr. On birth cert it references Ardeer Ironworks. As to Michael's birth, there are no entries in church records that match for parents.

On Groni there are 3 death records pertaining to Joseph Elder. One is between 1931-1935 and the other 2 are between 1941-1945. One obviously is the father but perhaps one is Joseph Jr.

Mayo / Re: Patrick Downey

To find Patrick Downey you may have to search in the Catholic Parish Registers. Looking at Griffiths Valuation there are Bartholomew Downeys in 2 areas you could start with-one in Boherboy,Kanturk, co Cork which is in northwest Cork very close to Kerry border and another Bartholomew in parish of Kilcatherine, co Cork which contains part of Kerry as well particularly Eyeries which can be listed as part of co Kerry. Remember even tho' Civil Registration for Catholics began in 1864 it was a while before many registered births of children. You best bet is to try the Parish registers.
