Gloucestershire / Re: Katherine Gough/Goff Westerleigh 1693
« on: Sunday 29 October 17 02:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, the timeframe may a bit too early, but there is a "Widow Gough" noted in the 1671 hearth tax for Minchinhampton in Longtree Hundred. There's also a Joseph Gough in this same area in 1672 and a William Gough in 1672 in Rodborrow.

You may also want to look at www.goff-gough.com, which has over 30 years of newsletters for this family association online. Hope the above helps.

Dorset Lookup Requests / Dorset hearth tax assessments 1662-1664 - GOFFE/GOFF
« on: Thursday 26 October 17 15:52 BST (UK)  »
I'm preparing a One Name Study of Goff and Goffe, which includes creating a map of the 1660s Hearth Tax Returns. I'd be grateful for details of Goffe and Goff entries in this 1951 book. From Hathi Trust Digital Library, I can see there are 11 entries, but no details are available. See https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt/search?id=mdp.39015016740253&view=1up&seq=7&q1=goffe. Thanks,

Phil

I found this in Wix.  I periodically check FreeReg for new baptismal records and this baptism appeared.

Essex Lookup Requests / Essex 1662 Hearth Tax: GOFFE, GOFF, GOUGH

I'd be grateful for a lookup for GOFFE, GOFF and GOUGH in the 1662 Essex Hearth Tax index, which I understand is in the Essex Records Office and the Redbridge Library. I've recently found a 1643 baptism of Stephen GOFFE, son of Michael and Susan GOFFE. He may be the immigrant ancestor to an American family. I'd like to see if this family was still in Essex in 1662. Thanks, Phil Goff

I'd be grateful if someone with the book, Herefordshire taxes in the reign of Henry VIII, would do a lookup for Gough, Goffe or Goff. I'm conducting a One Name Study and this is a key time and place for the family. Thank you,

Phil Goff

One Name Studies: A to G / Re: GOUGH-GOFF (GOONS 5555)
« on: Friday 27 February 15 15:42 GMT (UK)  »
Continuing to make good progress on this one name study. At the moment, I'm correlating the 1841 census, 17th century hearth tax lists, 16th century Tudor lay subsidies, 14th century poll taxes, and early 14th century lay subsidies. It is remarkable how the geographical concentrations of the family remain relatively stable over centuries. I will be publishing my findings in the newsletter of the Goff/Gough Family Association. We are welcoming new members at www.goff-gough.com. Thanks

Dorset Lookup Requests / Dorset Lay Subsidy Roll of 1332- GOFFE/GOUGH
« on: Friday 27 February 15 15:36 GMT (UK)  »
I'm conducting a one-name study. This book is partially viewable on Google Books. However, not all entries for this surname can be viewed and the place and and hundred names cannot be seen. I'd be grateful if someone who has this book can look up GOFFE, GOFF or GOUGH for me. Thanks,

Phil Goff
