Magic! I'll start digging.
But still think one of these days I'll have to get to Kingston in person.

Nathaniel Neilson (1760-1834) born in Dornal, Kirkudbright in Scotland. Spent 23 years in Jamaica (1785-1808). Returned to Scotland with a modest fortune. Purchased Springfield Estate near Castle Douglas, also KKD in Scotland. Married Barbara Agnew. Born 1791 in Wigtown. Died 1865 at Springfield. They had 11 children. Oddly, there is absolutely no record that I can find of Nathaniel's time in Jamaica. Any ideas anyone? Regards, Fergus Neilson.

Just inadvertently trashed an eMail stating (essentially) "want to talk with you about Merrick Neilson". Apologies. Happy to hear from the trashee again! You have my eMail. Anyone else interested in Merrick and his extended family ... there is a chapter on the "Ironblast Neilsons" in my (self-published) book "The Corsock Neilsons" available on www.blurb.com or at the Dumfries and Galloway Family History Library in Dumfries. Regards, Fergus Neilson (resident in Sydney, Australia and possibly but only very distantly related to the much more esteemed descendents of James Beaumont 'Hot Blast' Neilson). ps: 2 zip in the Ashes and it feels GREAT.

For anyone else interested in the Ironmaster Neilsons (descent from James Beaumont "Hot Blast" Neilson) there is a full chapter on the family in my book "The Corsock Neilsons" which is available through www.blurb.com.
