That is quite progressive, the children would have been recorded as base born (or something) if it wasn't a legal marriage. I would think their would be a marriage contract somewhere!

The 'hole' was a gold mine.
Jane Foster (nee Conroy) had her trial at Longford for vagrancy in 1829 and was transported in 1830.
It is stated that her year of birth was 1809 and her native place was Roscommon.
Her death certificate stated that her father was Michael Conroy.

There is a geni profile that names her mother as Ellen. I wonder where that information is sourced from. Jane was tried at Longford (Townland) could her Catholic baptism be near here?

Thankyou so much Sparret, Cando and Majm.

I did not know where in Australia he passed.

All we know is some type of machine accident.

Also not being able to locate the registration did mean we could not order the death certificate and pay for it.

How interesting he changed his name.

Paul Robert Glentworth died 15 May 1961 (findagrave)
And
Brian Donald Glentworth died 10th May 1961 (billiongraves)

How would you find the index entry for either of these men at vicbdm?

It appears they are in the same grave? I can't find either in a record outside of Melbourne General Cemetery.

I can see this via old newspapers:

In October 1888 at Dalston (Yorkshire?)  "Daniel Gumble, a young gipsy, was charged with a violent assault upon John Roster, his father-in law, also gipsy".

So possible that you could find Gumble and Roster together in records.

Mary Sherred is mentioned briefly on all the Romany websites I've come across (as Granny Gritt), on one or two sites her father Moses is also sometimes mentioned, so I have no doubt they were part of the New Forest Gypsy community. Moses wife was Harriet nee Freeman and the Freemans were Sweeps too.

I've found a newspaper article stating that Mary Gritt wife of William Gritt, a chimney sweep died aged 41 on the 6th of January 1883 near Fawley (New Forrest). And that they had 9 children plus some that had died. It appears she passed in childbirth of a son.

So this gives you a death date for Granny Gritt
