Gillian,

Not sure, I was just interested to see what was there.

While I now have my lineage back to 1545, I don't really have much in the way about what my Ellwoods did in their lives

It's funny you should mention Bruce Morrison as I've come across his name and website URL countless times but his website is gone:

Not even archive.org's wayback machine has a copy of it...

Do you have a copy of his Ellwood works that were on that website by chance?

Well... I think I've brought this to it's fullest extent...

Apparently I go alllllll the way back to Edward and Ellyn Ellwood back in the 1540's which after Googling around brought me to a few discussions here (many by you Gillian)

Based on what I've read online, this is as far back as one can expect to get back in English history:

Has anyone broken this barrier in their Elwood / Ellwood research?

Actually some of that does look wrong based on a genealogy search (versus record search) on familysearch...

When I pair Edmund and Elizabeth, I get this for their children:

children:
Daniel /Ellwood/,
Edward /Ellwood/,
John /Ellwood/,
William /Ellwood/,
Richard /Ellwood/

I'm thinking due to the diverse number of Ellwoods, the gene. search is going to be most accurate.

Gillian, can you let me know if I'm wrong or off base here?

I did double check my tree using the gene. search where my own paper records end and so far everything looks spot on.

Thanks, I'm really excited to be getting this far back but don't wan't to get so caught up that I'm committing incorrect info to my lineage.

Thanks =)

Thank you!

Now, IF I'm using familysearch correctly the next generation up should be:

Daniel's (1728) parents were Edmund and Elizabeth Robinson, married 14 October 1725 in Carlisle, Northumberland, England and they had 4 children:

John (c 15 Feb 1738, Dufton)
Lydia (c 01 Feb 1729, Dufton)
Samuel (c 13 Oct 1726, Dufton)
Daniel (c 02 Jun 1728, Dufton)

Hoping I got that right =)

The only reason I question it is the marriage in Carlisle which is over 2 hours away from Kendal (by today's travel standards)

Gillian,

I would welcome additional information with open arms =)

The additional children I did not have, so thank you very very much =)

Oh, I apologize, I thought you were asking if I had the info and provided an example.

Thank you very much =)

Sadly I do not as most of the resources I have been able to find only start around 1836, namely BMD and parish.

Parish records seem to stop around 1743:
http://www.cumberlandarchives.co.uk/content/category/4/13/27/

I found a few Ellwoods in Stricklandgate:

ELLWOOD John, Strg (2)
ELLWOOD Margrat, Strg
ELLWOOD Mary, Strg

... from the Constables Census Westmorland 1787 here:

http://edenlinks.rootsweb.ancestry.com/1gp/RECORDS/CC/EW/STRIK5.HTM

But I have no way to link Thomas Ellwood of 1802 back one generation to fill the void.

That said, the Kendal records aren't complete so there may be others, however bridging the gap is proving to be a challenge

Hello,

My first time here trying to track down a "missing" generation I have in my documented lineage.

I am looking for the ancestors of Thomas Ellwood (born 1802, died Oct 1876, in Kendal) and spouse Agnes Townsend of Westmorland.

They had a son, Thomas Edward Ellwood born 12/15/1831 in New Hutton and came to USA 1855 with wife Mirriam Wilcox born 7/30/1829 in England.

I haven't been able to find anything about Thomas's (born 1802) parents in the late 1700's.

Any help would be graciously appreciated.

Thank you kindly =)
