Hi Barbara

I have just been reading your message and all the replies.  I expect you have tracked him down by now - or gone off down another road!!  But I found a christian name end tacked onto a surname in my trawls.  Have you tried Stanley or Stonely/Stonley, ie the st of Ernest being added on to the surname.  I am a Londoner but not a Cockney!

Good luck

Thanks very much for your help.  My main line of enquiry is with James Brook born 1808.  I don't think this is the one, it looks like Hartfield is too far away!

If anyone else could give me any help with finding details of his parents, I would be very grateful.

Thanks again for helping me.

I expect I will just have to wait until one of Archibald Powell's descendants starts to trace their family history!  (That is, if he had any more children)Perhaps they will get in touch with me then!  The Davies family in Pembroke was quite a large one, so perhaps I will come across one of them one day.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Jane

Yes I have birth certs and marriage certs for Daniel and for my grandfather.  My grandfather was born in 1902 in Hammersmith, London.  His father is on birth certificate - Archibald Powell, carpenter,  and his mother Gwen Powell formerly Davies.  I have looked through about 30 years (so far!) of marriages possible for Gwen(da), but cannot find her marrying anyone.  Archibald Powell married in 1912 and was living in Essex then.

My grandfather was brought up as a Davies and never saw his mother or his father (as far as I know - although, as you can imagine, my grandfather did not ever speak about his illegitimacy)  I think Gwneda was probably sent to her grandmother's in London to have the baby and then went back to Pembroke, leaving him there.

It's a bit of a tricky one, I know.  It's had me working hard for the last year!

Thanks
Caroline

Hi Jane

Before you do any more work - thanks - but I have traced the family up to 1918 in Pembroke - it is 20th century stuff I am after.

What happened is that Daniel and Sarah Davies' daughter (Gwenda) was mother to an illegitimate child who was brought up in Hammersmith, London by his great aunt (Sarah Davies' sister).  This illegitimate son was my grandfather.  He knew nothing of his mother's family or his father's family.  So I am trying to trace any relatives of his.

Have you got any ideas about family history tracing in 20th century?

Thanks again for your interest and help

Can anybody help?

I am looking for any descendants of Daniel Davies b 1859 Narberth and Sarah Ann Brown b 1863 Mayfair, London.

They lived in Main Street, Pembroke and he was a Chemist/Druggist.  Last known in 1918 (from trade directory).

Thanks very much
