no. 8436   rank Sergeant.

Hope this is William Arthur Pay (1865-1941), who later during the Boer War used his name other first name Arthur, to confuse matters ::)
Thanks,
Robin

Thanks Comberton.
Problem is that the father of Ada Emily Pay's (1844-1921) children is sometimes "William James" and sometimes just "William". His occupation on the birth certificates was "Barman at a public place" and "Licensed Victualler". Pretty sure it is the Bethnal Green clan of Kings in the London area. Kids were born between 1865 and 1872, but Mr King and Ms Pay never got married :o
Easter Greetings,
Robin

South Africa / Re: William Arthur Pay Lived in SA from 1880-1998 and from 1901-1902
« on: Tuesday 29 December 20 11:37 GMT (UK)  »
Forgot to mention that the wife he lived with in the USA and maybe even already in SA (1901-1910) was named Wilhelmina Gunther. Most likely of Dutch origin.

Other great news for SA Pay family researchers is that two of his SA children (Violet Florence and Arthur Alfred Arnold), from his 1st wife (Elisabeth Augusta Wollenschlager,) married and had children in SA.
Pls check out much more recently scanned and published SA files on eg. FamilySearch.
