The Common Room / Wrong name on a headstone?
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 19:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I wonder if anybody out there knows if it was 'common' to have surnames spelt wrong on grave stones years ago? I've found it quite common on various certificates and what not but would it of happened on something as important as a head stone?

I've found the headstone of a wife of a great great great grandfather and it says that she was the wife of David Hoggan but my relatives name was David Haggart. It's the right person just a different name.

I don't suppose there's a definite answer to this question but I thought if ask.

Many thanks,

Hello,

It was very helpful, thank you so much :)

I wasn't aware that he went back to Barnsley. I know he was in Gt Yarmouth for a while but I'm not sure when he would've returned home.

Thank you for your reply though :)

All the best,

Scott

Hello all,

Is there any way that I could somehow look up a census record to try and see if somebody was in a certain place at a certain time? I hope that makes sense?  ???

The person I question is Joseph Ernest Varley who was born 1901 in Barnsley. I want to somehow try and find out where he was around 1946 if that's at all possible? I'm wondering if he was around the Great Yarmouth area in Norfolk...

Any information would be greatly appreciated :)

I hope to hear from you,

Scott

Hello again :)

I will try some of these things that you have mentioned.

As for knowing where David and Helen died, I'm not sure of this but I think that it could've been around St Cyrus. I think this because Helen was born in St Cyrus and that's where their daughter Clementina was born in 1859, but this could be wrong I don't know.

I have various notes and certificates that people have given me or that I've purchased myself along the way but they seem to of been misplaced in a recent house moving so I can't tell you what I know for definite at the moment :/

All the best and thank you :)

Hello,

I was just going over these notes again and I forgot to mention that no, I haven't found a death or burial for May/Mary as of yet.

I'm presuming that Mary and Robert passed away young and that's why David was living with Clementina, his aunt and the Soutar gentleman.

Perhaps you're right and there is some kind of 'Irish' connection and that's why nothing can be found?

All the best

Norfolk / Sarah Ann Meachen 1847 East Tuddenham, Norfolk

I am looking for any information on somebody named Sarah Ann Meachen. I believe that she was born 1847 in East Tuddenham, Norfolk. She married a man by the name of Charles Guymer, they married in 1868. Any information on Sarah's parents would be brilliant, I'd also love to hear from anybody who thinks that they may be related to these people :)

All the best
