Yes you are following the right chap.  On his death certificate it states Edward John, but these are filled in from information supplied to the informant and not always right as were the ages of the children of the marriage.  My mother chose to use this age cause it made her younger til she was caught out on her birth certificate.

Thank you Debra, I logged on and ordered a copy of the file.  I have been checking online and have contacted the GRO in Dublin and they have had a search for me but no records.  I looked at the microfilm site and it states that pages 29-32 are missing for births september quarter 1892, this could be why.

My Grandparents married in Holy Rosary Church in Kensington,Victoria,Australia, on the weddding details or certificate it states Birthplace as Faythe,Wexford Ireland his occupation was a seaman and his parents names were William O'Keefe Occupation Butcher, his mothers name was Mary Gibney

My Grandfather Edward John O'Keefe stated on his certificate to enable him to marry my Grandmother that he was born in Faythe, Wexford Ireland, to parents William O'Keefe a Butcher and Mary Gibney in approximately 1892. I have checked with Dublin GRO and no record of his birth being registered. What does a baptism certificate look like in Ireland, or could he have been baptised in another place, ie Liverpool?
