Derbyshire / Census Records : Sarah Ann Middleton born 1854
« on: Tuesday 09 January 24 17:40 GMT (UK)  »
Sarah Ann Middleton was born on 27 July 1854 in Grindleford Bridge, Derbyshire to parents Zachariah Middleton (born 1821) and Mary b. 1822 (nee Bowering) who married in 1841 in Eyam, Derbyshire.    Sarah married William Laynes (b.1848) in 1877 in Rotherham.

I'm looking for Sarah's census records for 1861 and 1871 before her marriage in 1877.

Family records  support Zachariah (spelling varies) parents were Robert Middleton and Ann Morton who married in 1796 through to the Middleton family who occupied  Leam Halll, Eyam, Derbyshire in the 16/1700.

Grateful for help.

continued..pressed wrong key

Thomas Alcock m Mary Brooks, 20 September 1828, St Mary's Church, Nottingham,  Vicar: George Wilkins.

Thomas Alcock, widower, m. Eliza Sutton, spinster 22 June 1837, Cheadle, Vicar (same) George Wilkins.

These records suggest Joseph and Harriet's mother was Mary Brooks and then Eliza and Lucy's mother was Eliza Sutton?

Everyone has been so helpful and I thought it relevant to share the above.

A family relative has three extracts from Nottinghamshire Family History Society records which appear to throw more light on Thomas Alcock.   An image for all three can be found on Ancestry.

Elizabeth Sutton, baptised 9 April 1815, St Michael Church, Sutton Bonnington, Notts.  Father: John Sutton, Framework Knitter, Mother: Lydia.

Thomas Alcock m Mary Brooks, 20 September 1828.  St Mary's

I already hold a marriage certificate for William Ferriday Evans and Elizabeth.

Thanks for your persistence

Many thanks to everyone for their interest and patience in this complicated family history.   I was hoping the research would find a marriage record for the parents of Elizabeth Alcock b.1844 who married William Ferriday Evans in 1868, together with a possible lead to an earlier Alcock generation.   The Alcock family history is complex and there appears to be no definitive answer to the family line, or am I having another senior moment and missing the obvious?    Thanks again, everyone.

The Wilcock name originated from a family tree I found on Ancestry.   I'm researching the Evans/Wilcock  family tree backwards, in particular Eliza,  from the marriage of William Ferriday Evans b.1844 and Eliza  Alcock b.1845  who married in Liverpool on 22nd March 1868.  The marriage certificate shows Eliza, daughter of Thomas Alcock, Lace Manufacturer.    The Ancestry tree shows Eliza the daughter of Thomas Alcock born c.1807 and Elizabeth Wilcock born c.1812 but it does not include a marriage date.    I have limited access to Ancestry (local library) but my next step is to email the tree owner to see if he/she can throw any light on the marriage date.

Thanks for your help and suggestions but for some reason there is no record for this marriage. There is ample evidence (census)  that Thomas Alcock and 'Elizabeth' were linked but there is no marriage record.  I think the possibility of marrying in another country at that period in time is a non-starter.   Transcription error - unlikely.   Thanks for your interest

1851 census records the following family living in Mansfield.    Thomas Alcock b.1807, Long Benton, Gloucester, Elizabeth Alcock (nee Wilcock) b.1812 in Nottinghamshire and the following children born in Mansfield: Harriet 1833, Lucy 1842, Gera 1847 (I think this is a transcription error for Elizabeth or Eliza) and Joseph 1850.

I've had no luck finding the marriage of Thomas and Elizabeth and would be grateful for help.   The age gap between Harriet (18) and Lucy (9) is as recorded but raises question of parents' marriage.
