Brilliant! Incidentally- where are you getting the 1939 census info from? I thought the 100 year rule applied to censuses?

Indeed she did have a son named Thomas born 1919 so that sounds promising. Thanks! You mentioned her exact date of birth was shown on the census. Did you note it down at all?

Thanks.

I haven't been able to find any burial information. I did find a possible lead of a Roberts buried in 1957 very near to the grave of my Great Grandad which lead me to believe it could be her. Unfortunately it was a red herring.

Her husband was definitely John Roberts. The probate is interesting, she did have 8 children so Thomas Roberts could be one of them.

Hi, sorry I haven't actually logged on for a while and didn't notice the replies building up! My information for the death date of Elizabeth Roberts was taken from other trees that referenced her. I now realise there is more than one Elizabeth Roberts born in 1886 in Stoke on Trent and that makes tracking down which one is the right one more difficult. The two Elizabeth Roberts died in 1957 and 1967 respectively. I don't know which one is the right one

Hi,

I'm hoping someone with more privileged access to death records might be able to help me with a little problem. I'm trying to trace my Great Auntie Elizabeth Roberts (Nee Fone) born in 1886 in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. I have almost all the details about her life up until the point she was married as Roberts is a fairly common surname compared to Fone.

As bad luck would have it, there happen to be 2 death records for an Elizabeth Roberts born 1886 registered in Stoke-on-Trent and I have absolutely no way of telling which is the right one!

The two records are as follows:

Elizabeth Roberts: registered 1st quarter 1957 aged 71, volume 9B Page 567 Line 110

Elizabeth Roberts: registered 1st quarter 1967 aged 81, volume 9B Page 66 Line 21

If anyone can tell me which one was the one born Elizabeth Fone I'd be very grateful as it would save me having to buy both certificates to check!

Regards,

Ian Fone

Hi,

This may be a very long shot but you never know.

Is there anybody here who is related to a Mrs Elizabeth Roberts (Nee. Fone) 1886-1967 of Stoke-on-Trent, maybe a great grandchild or nephew or other distant relative?

I've been trying to find out about her as she is my great great aunty but she seems to be a complete mystery. My dad who would have been 18 at the time of her death had never heard of her nor had he ever heard his dad mention an aunty Elizabeth at all which I find very odd.

The info I have on her is that she was born to Thomas William Fone and Eliza Ann Finney in 1886 and grew up in Normacot Road, Longton with her siblings including my great granddad William Fone (1878-1948). She married a John Roberts in 1911 and it looks as though they had several children and, I assume, grandchildren which is what prompted me to put this shout out in case any of them were active on here at all.

I recently took a stab at finding her final resting place when I noticed a burial record for Hartshill cemetery for a grave marking 2 Roberts burials with dates that match my known dates from death records. I even found the part of the cemetery where the grave is located but have not been able to find the headstone.

Any information would be welcome.

Wow she was from London? I never knew that! There was an extensive Buxton family in Longton so I assumed she was one of them. Was there any mention of the groom Thomas Fone's father on the marriage entry at all? That particular information is eluding me too.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a birth or baptism record for one Elizabeth Buxton (Buckstones) who was born in or around 1789 in Lane End, Staffordshire (now Longton, Stoke-on-Trent). I can't seem to find anything that matches. She is my great great great great grandmother who married a Thomas Fone in around 1820.

She is likely to have been baptised in St John, Lane End as members of her family were sextons of that church.

Thanks.

Family History Beginners Board / Mother of Clara Finney b.1868
« on: Sunday 26 October 14 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I recently found the birth certificate of my great grandma Eliza Ann Finney (b.1853 in Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent) and her mother is named as Eliza Johnson (her father as William Finney). However, I also know she had 2 siblings born in 1865 and 68 named Clara and Emily Finney. Eliza Johnson died in 1858 so Clara and Emily must have a different mother. I have found birth entries and census information for both of them but nowhere can I find the name of their mother. Could anyone help?

Thanks.
